I recently started a new book and thought I’d join in on this week’s First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros hosted by Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea.
“Limbs snap under his feet as he wrestles his way deeper into the underbrush. Twilight closes in around him, as water from the drizzling rain runs off his leather jacket. Lights are on in the kitchen and in a few rooms toward the back of the house. He sees her through the window, standing at the sink in the warm light, her hands busy under the running water.â€
From The Lost Woman By Sara Blaedel.
What do you think? If you didn’t know that the author writes crime fiction do you think this teaser would make you nervous? Sounds creepy right?
I’ve read a couple of books by Sara Blaedel, this is actually the sixth in her Louise Rick series, but I’ve read them out of order. Normally that’s not something I like to do but in this series I don’t seem to have a problem with that. Maybe I’m relaxing my guidelines for reading mysteries. Haha.
Tell me about a new book you’ve started!
Oh, yes, I’d continue reading. I’ve not read any of this author’s books as yet. Another of the translated series that seem to be published out of order. What’s up with that? Perhaps those publishers are not as picky as I am. LOL
I liked this one, and it was the first one I’ve read by Blaedel. I’m becoming quite accustomed to reading books out of order. 🙂 I do hope to pick up some of her earlier books, though!
Yes, I would definitely find that creepy based on the opening scene alone. I haven’t tried this series, but I’d like to. Thanks for sharing, Iliana!
Iliana, that is an enticing intro; I’d read more.
Yes, I’d keep reading! Sounds like a creepy story, but I’m curious.
I’ve seen this around, and those books from other countries that are translated are usually released out of order or missing the first couple of books, lol. I wouldn’t let that stop me. A well-written story will include a bit of backstory about the main character, and in a mystery that’s all you really need to know.
