I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We had a hot, hot weekend so my original plans of going out for a hike were put on hold. There’s no way I’m going anywhere with that kind of heat.
We had a really nice weekend though. I did finish my first R.I.P. XV read, The Turn of the Screw by Henry James.
I found it very atmospheric if a bit hard to get into at first but ultimately I really enjoyed it. I also found out that there’s a new adaptation of it on Netflix, The Haunting of Bly Manor. Not about it but there is no end to creepy stories on television this time of the year, is there?
This afternoon while hanging out with my mom we watched The Picture of Dorian Gray. I loved the costumes, music and just seeing the set designs. At one point, one of the characters is looking at a beautiful book and I lost track of the story because I was focused on the binding. Haha.
Other than that, I spent a bit of time reading through Bella Grace magazine and I found my new copy of World Literature Today. That came in the mail the week before but remember how I had to put away a lot of stuff last weekend so my husband could photograph my studio? Yep, this somehow got put aside in a pile of papers. Anyway, I’m sure I’ll have lots to tell you about it in another post.
Hope you all had a great weekend Let me know if you’ve watched any spooky films that you recommend and if you finished a good read.
Unpleasantly hot weekend here, too, and as I was trying for garden clean-up and prep–I was annoyed by the heat and mosquitoes and didn’t get much done.
So many ways to read The Turn of the Screw, so many ambiguities. I was interested in The Haunting of Bly Manor at first, but some reviews have had me questioning whether I really want to watch it.
Our week is looking cooler–hope yours is too!
The Turn of the Screw is one atmospheric read, I suppose that ending varies with each reader on how he/she interprets it. Hope you’ve a great week ahead and that the weather will get cooler.
I love Henry James, but The Turn of the Screw is actually my least favorite book of his. But it is an atmospheric read. 🙂
Ugh. Texas heat last sooooo long! I’m sorry you couldn’t go for your hike. We are beginning to see cooler temps and more rainy days than I like, but that’s what we get for living in Oregon. 😉
I hope you are seeing cooler temperatures, Iliana. It’s so nice here right now, we’ve been opening the windows during the day. Such a nice change from the heat! Finally! I read Turn of the Screw in high school, which, of course was ages ago. I remember liking it, but not much else I’m afraid. I should re-read it. I hope you have a great weekend, Iliana!
