I’ve been doing a bit of everything this week it seems and I’m looking forward to the weekend. Not sure what we’ll be up to but maybe going to check out a new restaurant and/or coffee shop. Or maybe we’ll just stay in and binge watch The Bridge, season 4. As we were in Malmo last summer I keep waiting to catch a glimpse of a place I might recognize. Haha..
One of the things that I started this week was my preparation for my HR Certification. I’ve been practicing HR for a long time and now that I have some time on my hands as I’m between jobs, I figure it would be a good time to finally do this and have that certification on my list of accomplishments. However this means class, study groups and lots of reading. I don’t mind but that means my regular “fun” reading and other hobbies will undoubtedly be affected. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to be a bit more crafty with my time management.
Speaking of crafty, I finally finished several Nancy Drew postcard journals I had been working on. Yay. I also have two new journals which will be one-of-a-kind mixed media/junk journals but still need to take pictures of those. See, what I mean about too much stuff going on? It’s all good stuff though so no complaints.
With regards to books, I finished such a beautiful book today. This Bright Hour by Nina Riggs which was recommended by Les. It’s a memoir about living life in the moment and vividly when given a terminal diagnosis. It was so moving and I don’t even know what else to say right now other than please read it. If I can put more thoughts together on this one I’ll try but it was one of those books that was a bit hard to close the last page on and move from it to another.
Also, I know I had said I was going to do The Portrait of a Lady read along hosted by Dolce Bellezza but I need to be realistic and set that idea aside. Another thing I want to do is return all library books, save my Geraldine Brooks collected poems copy as I’m still reading it. My stacks, real and kindle, are out of control and I need to focus on my books a bit more so it’s time for a bit of a library ban.
Alright I think that’s a bit about what’s going on over here at Casa Bookgirl. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and would love to hear what you are up to!
I love your Nancy Drew journals! These new ones look great! Good luck with your class and reading.
It sounds like you’ve had a productive week! Your journals are so cute!
The Nancy Drew journals are great! The Password to Larkspur Lane would make a great Internet password book. 🙂
I’m so glad you enjoyed The Bright Hour. I thought it was so well-written and one that I hope to read again someday. What an inspiration!
Good luck with your classes!
LOVE those Nancy Drew journals. They’re awesome. 🙂
Good luck on your HR certification! I hope you discover a tasty new restaurant or coffee shop!
Love my Nancy Drew journal–keep it up, Iliana!
I should probably try a library ban myself but if I can’t even keep to my NetGalley ban….well, not sure that there is a point in trying. LOL! This Bright Hour sounds heartbreaking but good so I may have to check it out. Have a wonderful weekend!
I went to run errands today. It’s a big deal for me because I’ve been sick for so many days. I managed to catch a few rays of sunshine.
Good luck with the HR Certification. Your journals are great!
Hope the weekend treated you well!
Kay – Thank you! I haven’t been a “student” in a while so I’m kind of nervous but excited!
Kim@Time2Read – I love bookbinding so it’s fun to see the finished results!
Les in OR – You are right, that would be a good idea for that journal! I loved the Bright Hour. Such beautiful observations. I’d like to check out her poetry book now.
Lark – Thank you! 🙂
Stefanie – Thank you. Unfortunately we ended up not going out but hopefully next weekend we’ll go out and try to discover some new places!
Jenclair – Ah, so happy to hear that!
Samantha – I totally know what you mean. I’ve been going crazy on NetGalley and that’s kind of what’s prompting my library ban. We’ll see how long I can keep it up.
Isabel – Good for you girl! It’s hard to stay indoors for so long even when you are having fun crafting and reading!
Bookworm – Thank you! 🙂
Kailana – It did 🙂
All the best for your HR certification! And your journals are lovely, as always. 🙂
