I hope you had a great weekend. Mine was quite busy but I did manage to finish two of my reads. I will have to tell you more about those soon and of course I did start a new book, Rumor Has It by Jill Mansell. You know, I guess the book is what would be labeled chicklit but if only all chicklit was like this. It’s funny, entertaining and with a heroine that’s not just a silly twit. So I like it quite a lot so far.
I went to the library today to get my holds and got The Mapping of Love and Death by Jacqueline Winspear. Can you believe I haven’t started it yet? Probably tonight I’ll try to get in some pages read. I also checked out The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. I recently read some reviews of the series over at Nymeth’s and had to check it out.
Oh and that’s not all. I also got two books in the mail which I am very excited about. Thanks to a giveaway Serena had a while back I won The Weight of Heaven by Thrity Umrigar. I read her novel The Space Between Us several years ago for a book group discussion and we all really enjoyed it so I have high hopes for this one. The other book that came in was How to be an American Housewife by Margaret Dilloway which is for a TLC Book Tour.
So that’s the scoop from my weekend. As I’ve been sitting here writing this post, I keep thinking about that Maisie Dobbs book on my nightstand. I think I’m going to close off for now and go start it.
I do enjoy reading Mansell’s books. She is one very funny lady!
I don’t think I have read a Mansell book, though I’m tempted to try one after your remark. 🙂
I still have not read Patrick Ness’ series yet!!! Need to remedy that. 😉
I can’t wait to hear what you think of Ness, Iliana!
I recently finished the first Maise Dobbs, and even though there were some things about it I wasn’t crazy about, there were other things I loved. I definitely want to continue with the series.
Enjoy The Knife of Never Letting Go–it’s wonderful!
Hope you had a nice weekend and I hope Maisie is off to a good start 🙂
Marg – This is my first one and now I know why so many have said they like her! Really enjoyable!
Melody – I hadn’t either but I remember last year I read several reviews as some of her books were finally being published in the States and the books were recommended. So far so good! 🙂
Nymeth – I didn’t even open the book because I was afraid I’d get sucked in and want to finish another book first but I’ll keep you posted. I can’t wait to hear what you thought of Maisie. I love that series!
Stephanie – Yay. I’m really looking forward to it!
Stefanie – I did break it in last night after all and of course ended up staying way too late. Thank goodness for coffee this morning 🙂
Why do weekends go by so fast?! I will have to check out Jill Mansell–entertaining and funny sounds good about now. I hope you like the new Maisie novel, too!
The Knife of Never Letting Go is absolutely fantastic. I hope to get hold of Monster of Men, the final part of the trilogy soon.
The Knife of Never Letting Go sounds very good. Happy reading 🙂
I loved Rumor Has It, but I’ve loved almost every book I’ve read by Jill Mansell (there was only 1 that didn’t thrill me). I used to order them from across the pond. If you’re enjoying this one, definitely seek out more of her books. She is an awesome writer. I think it’s almost offensive to call her books chick lit — they’re way too good for that classification.
Danielle – I think our weekends should be 5 days and work days should be 2 don’t you think? 🙂 I’m loving the new Maisie book!
vivienne – Oh yay, so glad to hear you liked it too. I read the Suzanne Collins books earlier this year and really like dystopian YA books I think so I get the feeling I’ll be enjoying this one too!
bookworm – It does, doesn’t it? I’m holding off on it just for a bit as I’ve got a mound of other books going on but can’t wait.
Bookfool, aka Nancy – I remember reading your review. It is turning out to be a really fun read. I know, I have a love/hate relationship with the term chicklit. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying books about young women finding themselves but sadly, that “genre” got flooded with a lot of not very good books. I’m glad I’m discovering this author and can’t wait to read more!
I’ve heard lots of good things about the Mansell book. I look forward to your review.
