Remember a while back I mentioned I had checked out an audio version of Full Dark House? Well, I get the feeling audio books are just not my thing. This is my second attempt at listening to a book and I was bored! Granted, I was bookbinding and typically I listen to music when I do that so maybe I’m just used to that. Hmm, I don’t know if I should try another. Is there a really good one you recommend?
Moving on… I had a coupon for Jo-Ann Fabrics the other day and I was able to use it on the latest issue of Cloth Paper Scissors magazine. This is one I always read but don’t always buy. I’m excited about this issue though because it has an article on Extreme Visual Journaling. woo-hoo.
Speaking of coupons, this week is a great week… It’s time to redeem the Half Price Books coupons I got in the mail the other week. I wasn’t able to spend a lot of time there today but I did get two goodies. I found The Accomplice by Elizabeth Ironside. I think I first heard of this author via Bas Bleu and I trust their recommendations. And, my other find was The Redbreast by Jo Nesbo which I’m pretty sure I added to my TBR list after Danielle mentioned it a while back.
Am I going back to Half Price Books? Of course! Later this week I plan to go again and find some more goodies. Who else is going?
I’ve never tried audio books before, but I don’t think it’s for me either. I want to read the texts as I read the books…well, that’s me. ;P
Speaking of books, I did buy a few books lately. I just need more time to catch up on them, haha.
I’ve been trying audiobooks lately too and I got bored with a few of them as well. I’ve decided that only simple storylines are for me, preferably light and happy books! The more complicated/dark/serious stuff I’d rather read than listen to.
I’ve not been taken too much by audio books, either. Not sure why. I have used them when driving long distances, but that is about all.
I have an email coupon so I’ll be going too!
I’ve tried several times with audio books, and I haven’t finished one, yet. I just can’t seem to get into the story with an audio book.
I’ve had mixed success with audio books. I listened to two of the Twilight series on audio (of course, I had already read them). I also listened to Austenland by Shannon Hale. That was a good one.
I’ve been trying to get through Love Walks In by Marisa ??? and I’m having trouble getting through it. It’s not a bad story, but I’m having trouble focusing on it. And, I don’t rush back to listen like I did with the other audio books I’ve tried.
Too bad you find audiobooks boring! I can see how that might happen though. 🙂
Full Dark House – Think it is probably the original book that is the problem.
I am planning a stop at Half Price Books tonight too. And again in a few days. Love those coupons. Enjoy.
Melody – I tried a non-fiction and now a mystery so I am getting the feeling I’m not going to do well with these 🙂 I wanna hear about your books!
joanna – I think I’d like to read the darker ones as well. Especially if it means having to keep track of a lot of characters or stuff. Sometime I go back to re-read a passage and I think I’d miss that a lot with an audio book.
jenclair – I tried this one too while driving between Dallas & Austin and I swear I was about to fall asleep – not good! ha,ha…
Tara – Hope you find lots of good stuff!
Lisa – My mind was seriously wandering and I was getting so restless. So I understand what you mean.
Nicole – I’ll keep Austenland in mind in case I want to try audio books again. I liked Love Walks In but I get the feeling I’d be lost with an audio version as it switches between characters… Unless maybe they use two voices?
Eva – I thought it’d be the perfect way to make books and read books at the same time but no such luck. You said you enjoyed them while sewing right? Lucky thing 🙂
Joy – True! This is my second try with that book and I think I just need to let it go! ha,ha…
Juliann – Ooh hope you find some great stuff. Those coupons are the best aren’t they? I didn’t go tonight but I’ll go back later this week.
I really enjoyed that Jo Nesbo book and have been thinking I need to read another of his mysteries! I hope you enjoy it! And maybe audio books just aren’t your thing. I only listen when I’m walking and anything is better than looking at the traffic (well, more than necessary anyway). At the moment I’m listening to Sepulchre, which is okay. I’m not sure I like the reader’s voice–she’s British, but her American accent is a little strange. I’ll give it a little more time, though.
I don’t know … I’ve tried audio books before and my mind tends to wander so that even if it’s a book that I would have enjoyed reading, I can’t keep my attention on it when I’m listening to it. The only exception would be books that I’ve already read or some non-fiction like David Sedaris or Bill Bryson.
Danielle – I was reading the jacket and it looks like this is the second one… You know, I’m starting to slowly let go of reading the first book in the series thing. Oh and I’m looking forward to your thoughts on Sepulchre… She’s the one that wrote Labyrinth right? I was a bit meh on the book… Readable but it could have been better.
Lesley – David Sedaris! I bet you those are probably the best to listen to! I’m going to see if I can get his latest on audio. He’s awesome.
I’m not much of an audio gal, but really it’s because it takes no more than 5 minutes to get anywhere in Vicksburg. When I drove home to Oklahoma, an audio book helped fill the time. It wasn’t a good one, though, so I was more discerning about my choice for the return trip. A good reader is everything, in my humble opinion.
As to Half-Price Books . . . I’ve never been in one!!! I think there’s one in Tulsa. Maybe next time I’m in OK.
Nancy, aka Bookfool – I think you are right about the reader. That’s why I’m going to try and find a David Sedaris book on audio – he’s fantastic and I’ve listened to him before live and on NPR so I can imagine that one of his books would be great. Oh and yes put that on your to-do list if you go back to OK… HPB is bliss 🙂
I would like to try an audio book someday, but I think the circumstances would have to be just so. Listening while I am at the computer would be no good because I tend to block out the sound around me. I’ll have music on and won’t know what songs I was just listening to. Maybe if I was exercising. I keep telling myself that if I ever get an iPod, I’ll give it a try. I do enjoy music though–and hate to encroach on my music time.
