Thanks to Eva I found out that this week is Children’s Book Week. I don’t read books for very young readers but occasionally I’ll check out some YA fiction. So, Eva’s post reminded me that I needed to tell you about Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher (link takes you to more of my thoughts).
This is a wonderful debut novel, and one that I think would be perfect for a book group discussion. This was actually an Advance Reading Copy and I’d love to share it, so if anyone is interested in this book leave me a comment and I’ll have a drawing for it. I’ll announce the winner on Monday.
Speaking of drawings and raffles, don’t forget to check out the Love of Reading online book fair. I checked out the list of books that are being raffled tomorrow and there are some good ones.
I’m off to catch up on my reading. I’m should be finishing Raven Black soon. I still can’t figure out who did it.
I’ve just been back to look at the Asher review and it sounds very interesting. I’m always looking for new writers to offer to secondary students so I must see if this is available in the UK. Thanks for introducing it.
I just checked your review as well, and I’m in!
I am not one to read a lot of YA novels either, but I’ve read a handful this year and have found them very enjoyable.
Just read your thoughts on the Asher book–it does sound interesting. Please toss my name in as well.
I’ve had this one on my TBR list for a while (I visit Jay’s Blog — The Disco Mermaids — sometimes), but I don’t know when it’ll be at the library. I know, I could go buy a copy, but it’s much easier to try my luck at a drawing. Count me in. Glad you liked the book.
Saw the Children’s Book Week banner at Borders, where they set up extra workstation for the kids and storytelling sessions. It’s quite cute.
I’m in for the drawing too. Your review got me interested.
Ann D. – I am so curious what a teen would think of the book. I can imagine that I would have enjoyed it as a teen as well.
Jenclair – Yay 🙂
Danielle – I have read several this year too and I’m beginning to enjoy them. I used to not even want to think about YA books but I’m more open to them now.
Melissa – Thanks for the link to his blog. I’ll have to check it out!
Matt – Really? I was at Borders tonight and I didn’t see one. Maybe it was by the children’s section.
Nymeth – Yay. You are in the drawing as well!
That sounds like a good book. Please include my name in your drawing!
The Jay Asner book sounds very interesting! Please include me in your drawing.
Also, I love the CBCBOOKS link! I have bookmarked it and hope to check it out alot more!
