As I mentioned recently, I haven’t been to the library most of the summer because I’ve been trying to focus a bit more on my stacks but I’ve started going back. Last week I only took out three books (which I still haven’t started) but this week I went to pick up the free issue of BookPage. I avoided the temptation of the new books shelves but the Sale Shelf was too much for me.
Especially as they were running a summer sale where every book was 50 cents.
I got some great buys I think. Here’s what I walked out with:
- Get A Life by Nadine Gordimer
- The House Gun by Nadine Gordimer
- The House of Scorta by Laurent Gaude
- A Taxonomy of Barnacles by Galt Niederhoffer
- A Family Daughter by Maile Meloy
- Banishing Verona by Margot Livesey
Have you read any of these? What did you think?
Oh, and please don’t forget to stop by tomorrow because I’ve got a giveaway to announce!

Wow, I love a bargain and what a great deal for 50 cents each…you got a good deal. I hope you enjoy reading them all.
Book sales are surely hard to resist, LOL. Happy reading! 🙂
I’ve not read any of these, but who cares???? They were fifty cents! Nothing makes my day like a cheap book!
Who can resist a library sale? Certainly not me. Enjoy your new books.
i guess i should come and stay there 😛
i would love to have a sale like that! and no i haven’t read any of those~
I loved “A Family Daughter.” Have you read the first book, “Liars and Saints?” I think if you read that one first, “A Family Daughter” makes more sense.
I read the Taxonomy of Barnacles a few years ago and really enjoyed it. It was a fun, zany read.
Kathleen – I couldn’t pass them up right?! 🙂
Melody – Now the only problem is where to put them all! haha…
Sandy – Ha, so true! I love that too 🙂
vivienne – Me either! You feel like you just found some treasures!
Veens – If you came to visit me I’d take you there 🙂
Anna – Oh really? Good to know! I didn’t realize they were connected. And, I do have A Family Daughter so I’ll have to remember to read them in order.
Mike B. – So good to hear that! I had read some mixed reviews on the book but I still think it looks interesting. I’m already looking forward to the zany characters then 🙂
I haven’t read any of them, but I’ve been meaning to read Nadine Gordimer for some time. I look forward to your reviews!
I love Nadine Gordimer. Haven’t read any of those though.
I love Maile Meloy, but agree it might be best to read the first book first. For 50 cents, how could you have passed these up?
p.s. it’s always great to hear about someone picking up a copy of BookPage!
So jealous about those Nadine Gordimer books. I’ve recently discovered and want to get some of her books. good deals!
I could do with some library-avoidance and concentration on my own books, but that doesn’t seem to happen…
Nymeth – I’ve been meaning to read Gordimer for a long time too! Her books always sound interesting to me so I don’t know what’s the hold up 🙂
Stephanie – Oh good to hear!
Trisha – Love BookPage! I know we can read it online but there’s nothing like getting a copy and sitting down with it and marking off books to add to the radar 🙂
BrownGirl – I can’t wait to jump into one!
Kailana – It did help me make a bit of a dent in my stacks but I get the feeling the little space I had cleared out will be filled up pretty quickly 🙂
Nope, haven’t read a single one. Congrats on your bargains!
Don’t you just love these library book sales? Nothing better than great books at a cheap price!! enjoy
I’ve read the Gaudé, it was the Hesperus Press edition with a slightly different title, but it’s the same book. I really enjoyed it!
