I was a bit more than half way through Snow when guess what happens? I get an email from the library reminding me the book is due. I tried to renew it online but I couldn’t because someone had put a hold on it. Darn. I was a good library patron and returned it but you know what this means. By the time the book is available again I may have lost interest in it or it’ll be too long after the fact that I’ll have to re-read it. Sigh.
Anyway, I still went to book group and had a good time catching up with Christine and the book group members. We had quite a crowd this time. We had a good discussion on the book (I did more listening than discussing) and while I think most people didn’t necessarily love the book, at the same time everyone seemed to agree it was a worthwhile read.
Now it’s time for me to start a new book. I’m off to spend some quality time in front of my stacks.
I gotta start a book club. I get jealous of your bookish meetings.
I’ve had the same thing happen. What I do is to immediately put the book on hold so I’ll get it back soon. This works unless there are about a gazillion other holds on the book.
I hate it when that happens. There are certain books I will just break down and just buy knowing I will never get through them before the book is due. Or I will wait until it comes out in paper.
Last night was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the discussions and since I really had not gotten too far into the book, I was satisfied to hear others comments. Now I need to go find the book for next month!
Ugh, I hate that! Sometimes if I’m just a couple days from finishing the book, I’ll keep it and pay the overdue fines. (for shame!)
Nik – You should start one! I’ve been going to both of my book groups for a long time now. They are great.
Lynne – Oh I like that. A bit sneaky but it works 🙂
Danielle – Me too. Especially big books those I know I’ll have to buy because the three week time limit won’t probably be enough.
Christine – I have high hopes for the next one!
Lesley – I do that sometimes but I knew it’d take me a while to finish Snow and now they’ve doubled the price on late fees. At that rate I might as well as buy the book. ha,ha…
No!!! I admire you for turning in back in.
Nik, I started my own book club in New Orleans after the Katrina.
Email me off site to find out what I did.
Isn’t it fun to stand before your stacks of books and decide what to read next? I love the anticipation of pulling a book off the shelf, carrying it with me to my favorite reading spot (curled up on the couch, under a blanket, kitty purring on my chest), opening the book to the dedication page and then on to the first page of the narrative. Such a simply pleasure.
What did you end up choosing???
Sheri – It was hard 🙂
Les in ne – Oh you described that so perfectly. Well, except for the kitty on my part as I’m allergic 😉
Heather T. – I’ll do a post on that soon because I’ve started two books and I’m loving both!
That is exactly why I have an out of control collection of books in my house! I hate having to return things unread.
Andi – I don’t mind returning books unread that I haven’t started. It’s the ones I’ve started and want to finish that I hate having to return. Granted that doesn’t happen to me often but still. bleh.
