I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Ours was quite fun and aside from all the stuff I had planned, I also got a chance to catch up a bit on my reading. I finished two books so I’ll have to tell you about those soon.
Now though it’s time to prepare for Virago Reading Week so here is my stack of Viragos. Sorry for the fuzzy picture.
I know it’s hard to read the titles but I have books by Molly Keane, Beatrix Lehmann, F. Tennyson Jesse, Ada Cambridge, Eudora Welty, Mollie Panter-Downs, Radclyffe Hall, Elizabeth Taylor, Pamela Frankau, Elizabeth Von Arnim, Charlotte M. Yonge and E. Arnot Robertson.
I don’t know which one to pick. Part of me wants to go with the Elizabeth von Arnim as I’m familiar with one of her books (it’s one of my all time favorites) but then I also would like to read another Elizabeth Taylor. I’ve not tried any of the other authors though so that’s exciting in itself. Which one to choose? If you have a recommendation please let me know.
How about you, are you participating in Virago Reading Week and which book are you going to choose? I’ll let you know as the week goes by which one I decided to read.
I’m envious of your Virago stack! I only own two of the little green beauties. I am planning to participate also and read a Kate O’Brien. I’ve already started since I’m a pretty slow reader. I hope I finish within the week! I think Elizabeth Taylor is a good choice ~ I’ve heard so much about her and I always enjoy reading reviews of her books.
I was just looking at a Virago book of ghost stories that’s sitting on my shelf. I am pretty sure it’s the only Virago related book I own. I hadn’t heard about a special week being set aside to read Virago books. I hope you enjoy your choices, Iliana!
This is so cool! I’m not participating, but I’ll be watching you and Joann in particular!
I am not participating in this challenge but I like your collection.
It seems that you have mostly women authors. I am not sure whether
Radclyffe Hall, E. Arnot Robertson, and F. Tennyson are men or women. Please check for me.
Anbolyn – I’ve read one Elizabeth Taylor book and it was very good. I believe the one I read was the last one she wrote. Would like to read more by her definitely. So glad you are participating too!
Literary Feline – I found out via Danielle about Virago week. I think I know which ghost story collection you are referring to – not one I own but one I want!
Sandy – I like reading weeks. It’s such a short period of time and easier for me to particiapte. I’ve already decided which book to read 🙂
Isabel – Don’t say the word challenge as I’m not supposed to be joining any this year! haha… I’m okay with Readalongs as they aren’t long in timeframe and I’ll be more likely to participate. All the authors you asked about are women as Virago books are publishers of books by women. I actually started the E. Arnot book and it’s interesting the introduction they mention that her parents gave her a “boy” name as they wanted a boy. Can you believe it?!
Lovely photo! I am reading Taking Chances at the moment–Molly Keane is an interesting writer. I Loved One Fine Day and Elizabeth Von Arnim is usually a good choice as is Elizabeth Taylor! I’m sure you’ll find something good to read–enjoy choosing!
So glad you’re joining us this week! I’ve started with Elizabeth Taylor, but really wish I had a copy of One Fine Day by Mollie Panter-Downes, I’ve heard such good things about it.
I am not participating in the Virago read but look forward to your reviews of the books you end up choosing to read.
Danielle – I really want to read more by Elizabeth von Arnim and Elizabeth Taylor. I get the feeling anything else I’d read by them I’d love. I had a fun time choosing my book and I decided upon a good one!
Carolyn – Thank you so much for co-hosting this event. It is so cool. I can’t wait to see what everyone is reading and of course add more Viragos to my list 🙂
Kathleen – I don’t think I’ll read more than one but so far the one I’ve picked up I’m really liking!
So many choices! Can’t wait to hear about whichever one/s you choose!
I’m not participating myself, but enjoy it. I’m looking forward to your posts about the books.
Nice collection of the classics with lovely green covers! Most of my actual Viragos are the newer editions, and I have quite a few from their booklist but from other publishers. I can see how addictive they’d be!
If your list was on my shelf I’d choose either Elizabeth Taylor or Mollie Panter-Downes; I’ve read books by both and loved them but not those titles. Elizabeth in Her German Garden is wonderful also. Happy reading!
Beautiful stack of books! Very nice to look at 🙂 The one author I’ve read in that list is Elizabeth Taylor, and I liked her quite a lot.
What a lovely pile! I hate that I’m missing out on all the VMC fun this week, but hopefully there will be a next time.
