I have been surfing the Internet instead of reading my books this evening. I love finding cool things on the web but then I get mad at myself for wasting precious reading time. Don’t you hate it when that happens?
Oh well, I was reading some very cool stuff so I shouldn’t complain. Let me tell you what’s been keeping me occupied this evening.
First, there’s the latest Estella’s Revenge. I was excited to read the author interview with Cathleen Schine, whose novel The Love Letter I really enjoyed. It’s great to see she has a new book out, The New Yorkers, which is going on my TBR list. There are lots of other great articles and book reviews so check out Estella’s.
My other stop was the Powell’s site and look at what I found, a Nancy Drew purse & books combo. Is it wrong to say I want that? Granted it’s not like I really need another book bag but it is Nancy Drew.
Know what else I really want? The latest Gaslight Mystery book, Murder in Chinatown by Victoria Thompson. This is one of my favorite mystery series. Should I get the book now?
Finally, you know how everyone has a recommended Summer reading list? Lots of great books to be found for sure but I thought this Alternative Summer Reading list was clever. Heh.
Alright enough of the internet for tonight. I’m off to spend some quality time with To Say Nothing of the Dog. I’m nearing the end.
If you find something new to read, then surfing is not a waste of time.
I like the Alternative Summer Reading list–made me laugh 🙂
I’m spending more time surfing the net than reading recently, have lost my urge to read…hope it comes back soon, I miss it!
The Alternative Summer Reading List was very clever. Funny. And that Nancy Drew bag is actually very cute! I’d use it. I agree with Isabel, that surfing’s not a waste of time if you find new books or even learn something new. Time sure can get away from you while surfing, though.
Yay for the alternative summer reading list!!! LOL I love it. Especially “Julia Child: The Basketball Years.”
And I’m glad you’re enjoying this month’s Estella. Cathleen Schine was such a joy to interview.
I’m a Connie Willis fan – especially To Say Nothing of the Dog. What a hoot! I’ll be interested to read your reaction.
Isabel – I think you are right 🙂
Gentle Reader – Glad you liked it. I was thinking of coming up with some of my own titles but got too sleepy.hee.
Claire – It’ll come back. Just get overdose on some fashion magazines and I bet you you’ll want to get back to fiction. ha,ha..
Camille – Yep, internet surfing is fun. I just wish I didn’t lose track of time! I’d use the Nancy Drew bag too it’s just that I don’t think I can justify another bag purchase 🙂
Andi – That was great wasn’t it. Congrats again on scoring that interview with Cathleen Schine.
Ted – I haven’t finished it yet but it is so good! I’m sure I’ll be looking for other of her books after this one. Do you have a favorite?
To say nothing… is my favorite. It’s the most sophisticated, but Doomsday Book and Passages are also really good. Doomsday book would be a great YA read about the bubonic plague. Passage is about near death experiences and is a nice combination of provocative and pulpy.
I love the Nancy Drew bag!
Speaking of.. got free sneak peak tix to the upcoming movie next week. Can’t wait!
I regularly get mad at myself for spending too much time on the computer. And then I also get mad at myself for not keeping up on emails and reading new posts. I wish there could be just a few more hours in the day (that were reserved for reading–NOT working-because you know that’s what you would end up doing, right!). Must go and check out the alternative reading link!
Ha. That list is too silly!
I know exactly what you mean! I do this at least once a week and always come away with more new books or books TBR and realize I could have been reading the last 2 hours. Oh well!
The Alternative Summer Reading List is hilarious, I loved it! An in-depth guide to the Himalayas Mexican Restaurants indeed!
I try to limit my surfing to e-mails and book-related sites, like you guys’ blogs. But sometimes you can lose track with time!
I love that bag!
Ted – Oh I will definitely add Doomsday to my TBR list. That one sounds good too.
SciFiChik – Lucky you girl! Can’t wait to read your review on that.
Danielle – There’s gotta be a way to get more reading hours in the day don’t you think? Glad you enjoyed the list. I thought it was fun 🙂
Tara – Yes, my TBR list is out of control! Too many books and not enough time.
NyssaNeala – Glad you got a kick out of that 🙂
Matt – You are good! Well, aside from all the book blogs which seem to be multiplying on a daily basis (not that that’s bad – just bad for my TBR list!) I also check crafty blogs. Oh dear. That’s way too much time spent on the computer.
Lesley – It is cute isn’t it. I must stop checking it out before I end up buying it – ha!
I was expecting the alternative for Julia Child: The Salad Years instead of Basketball Years. 😀
maggie – ha,ha.. That would have been great.
I love the Nancy Drew bag. I should get for my niece. And, me too!
