Yes, I got one.
I haven’t participated in a Sunday Salon post in ages but I couldn’t pass today up as I just got my Kindle yesterday and I’ve been having some fun with it.
I’ve been reading The Spiritualist by Megan Chance on it and so far so good. It’s a bit weird not having a book in my hands but I do like it. What I’m most excited about of course is reading chunkster books on this and using it when we go for our annual trip to Germany. No more loading my backpack to full capacity with books. Think of all the space I’ll have in my suitcase that I can pack with chocolates! haha…
Anyway so my bookshelves wouldn’t be upset though I’ve also gotten some books this weekend. I’ll tell you about those tonight. Now I need to run some errands and prepare for book group this afternoon.
Woot!! You are so gonna love ebooks! Perfect for your upcoming travels. If I didn’t already have an iPad, I’d definitely be in the market for either a Nook Color or a Kindle. OK, who am I kidding. I’d by the Nook. Have to support the employer. π
The portability factor for some books is really making me rethink the kindle idea. Enjoy it!
Jealous! Enjoy. π
Awesome!
Les in NE – I sort of wanted the Nook but well ended up with a Kindle. I didn’t like the iPad as much for reading because of the glare. Plus, its heavier and at that point I felt like I might as well read a hardcover! haha… And, yes, you would have to get a Nook. Do you guys get discounts on them? π
Nicole – I know right? That’s really why I wanted it so I could have lots of books on the go. Not that we are traveling all the time but I gotta be prepared π
Tiffany – I’m pretty excited with it! π
Amanda – Yay π
The Husband bought me a Kindle for Christmas and I absolutely love it. I was sick this weekend and just couldn’t hold up my current read (a chunkster type book) and the Kindle was perfect. I think you’ll wind up loving it. You might want to check out the blog, Books on the Knob, if you haven’t done so already … although I admit that it can be a little addictive. π
I love my Nook for travel, it’s the best to use for that I think. Although, right now I’m reading Villette on my Nook, and I like holding something thin when I’m reading a 500+ page book. Congratulations on your Kindle, I’m sure you’ll love it as much as Les and I love our e-readers.
Cool!!! I’m not going to lie–I’ve kind of enjoyed reading Ulysses on my ipad–even if I don’t want to admit it! The difference is being able to look up words on the spot. Though–I read primarily from my paper copy so I can jot down notes and underline passages but then flip over to ipad when I need to look something up.
Enjoy. And Germany?? So jealous! Though I have to say I prefer Swiss chocolate. π
Melissa – See, I knew the Kindle would be perfect for those chunkster books π Thank you for the tip on Books on the Knob. Don’t think I’ve got that on my rss feed so I’ll be looking forward to visiting!
bellezza – I kept thinking I wouldn’t use it for anything but travel but really those big books when I’m lying in bed trying to read them can be cumbersome. I think this will be perfect!
Trish – As I was reading yesterday I tried taking notes on the Kindle and so far I’d say I prefer paper but who knows I may get used to that. My husband loves his iPad but I couldn’t quite get used to that, granted I hardly used it. Yea, we go to Germany every year to visit my husband’s family so it’ll be perfect then. And, well give me any kind of chocolate and I’m there π
Well done on your purchase. I am still resisting…..
Yeah baby! The trips overseas in the past were just awful, with me scared I wouldn’t have enough to read, and my husband ready to behead me for taking up a whole suitcase just for books. Problem solved. For my birthday every year, I ask for Amazon gift cert. and then just draw on it all year long!
Awesome! Enjoy π
Hey, I am going to be reading The Spiritualist. You copied. lol I haven’t even cracked the spine. A bit of a library overload at the moment. I hope you continue to enjoy your eReader!
π Last night, I didn’t have anything to read that suited my mood. I have lots of reviews to catch up on, but instead, I downloaded The Spiritualist on my Kindle. Finished it before going to bed–late!
I have the bigger version of the Kindle and a Nook!
Congrats Iliana! I love my Kindle, especially for reading at lunchtime at work –hands free is awesome. enjoy
I’ve had my Kindle since September and have been nothing but pleased with it. I love reading chunksters on it and love all the free classics that are available for download.
vivienne – I was resisting for a long time too but as I’m working full-time now I thought it was time for a real treat π
Sandy – Oh you’ve given me a great idea to ask for those gift certificates for bdays! I can’t wait until our next trip to Germany. I won’t even know what to put in my backpack! haha…
Nymeth – I am π
Kailana – I know, I saw that you mentioned it and last night when I was looking for an ebook to buy that came up as something I might like and I quickly snatched it up. It was the perfect first book – has all the ingredients I like in a historical story.
jenclair – Love it! I can’t believe you finished it though. I think my Kindle says I’m only 10% done so I guess I have a ways to go but I’m really enjoying it. I loved the first sentence “open to possibilities” I thought how appropriate it was for me at the start of using my Kindle.
Diane, BibliophileBytheSea – I’m toying with the idea of taking it to work too although I don’t really have a full lunch hour but I’ll read whenever I can!
Anbolyn – I’m so glad to hear such good things about it. It was kind of hard to decide between this one and the Nook but I guess I don’t go to B&N as often as I shop from Amazon so that’s kind of why I ended up with the Kindle. Really liking it so far!
Congratulations! You’ll love it. I know I love mine. And you are rightΓ’β¬βit’s especially great for long books.
Yay for the new Kindle and lighter luggage. But, more room for German chocolate . . . ohhhh, dangerous!
Yay for the Kindle! Enjoy!! π
it will be perfect for your trips to Germany and those chunkster books. I like how you plan to fill the empyt spots in your suitcase π
I love my Kindle when I travel. I hope you enjoy yours too!
wonderful! Enjoy it π
Dana Huff – I get a bit tired from holding up a big book, especially when I’m reading in bed so that’s why I think a Kindle is perfect for that. yay.
Bookfool, aka Nancy – I know right? I usually don’t pack too many clothes as I have a good set of travel clothes in Germany anyway so I’m thinking I’m going to have a lot of room for chocolate π
Melody – I’m really liking it! Granted I still need to learn to “use” some of the features but so far it’s cool.
Stefanie – Hee,hee… I gotta be prepared for the empty space π
Kathleen – I’m really looking forward to that because our last trip my book-filled backpack was really getting on my nerves!
bookworm – so far I am π
Oh, how fun! So many people I know are getting ereaders now π I’m enjoying mine, and I hope you love yours.
Hope you’re enjoying your Kindle. I’ve had the nook for over a year and though it’s not my primary reading source, it’s brilliant in a pinch and for traveling. I’m heading to NYC next week for work and I’ll bring the nook and no books. It’ll allow for more space in my carry on for when I visit The Strand.
Dorothy W. – I know, I felt like I was the last one! haha.. Really liking it a lot!
Mike B. – Have a great time in New York and hope you find lots of great books at The Strand. A great little book shop is Three Lives & Co which I would recommend too. I can’t to travel with my Kindle π
I never thought I would say this, but I sort of want a Nook. Can’t afford one at the moment, but some day. Have fun with your new Kindle!
