Hi Friends – I hope you’ve all been enjoying the weekend. I’m excited to join in on another Sunday Salon and thank you to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting the chat.
What I’m watching: Did you hear there’s a new limited series of Dexter coming out? We really enjoyed this series (especially the first couple of seasons) so we bought the entire season to watch it again as we anxiously await the new series later this fall.
What I’m reading: Having spent some time in nature recently, I wanted to continue my appreciation of nature by starting World of Wonders by Aimee Nezhukumatathil and illustrated by Fumi Nakamura. This is a memoir in which the author takes us through her childhood with a focus how nature shaped her life and memories.
What I’m making: Cards. I love all kinds of paper crafting and sort of cycle between bookbinding, journaling, mixed media, etc. Lately I’ve been making some cards for friends who are celebrating birthdays but also for Cards of Kindness. Last year I sent in a bunch and I hope to send some again this fall. Card making can be simple or elaborate. I prefer to make simple designs but not matter what they look like I just hope they bring joy to the recipients.
What made me smile this week: Buying a Texas State Parks annual pass. This last week we went to two state parks and had such a wonderful time. I remember when I was younger and traveling I always wanted to go to big cities but the older I get the more I appreciate nature. Don’t get me wrong I still love big cities but time in nature is restorative for the soul. The best part is that we have several state parks near us so I can’t wait for more days spent outdoors.
What is my motto for the week: Go to bed with dreams, wake up with a purpose.
I’ve been off from work all week so I’m going to enjoy the rest of this day and prepare for tomorrow. No doubt it’s going to be a long day as I get back into the swing of things. I hope you all have a great week head and more book talk soon!
I love your motto! Love the cover of World of Wonders and the subtitle, too! World of Wonders
IN PRAISE OF FIREFLIES, WHALE SHARKS, AND OTHER ASTONISHMENTS
Jen Mullen – I should have added the subtitle! The world of nature definitely has a lot of wonder and astonishments to share if only we will take a moment to notice.
I loved the original Dexter and I’m excited for the upcoming sequel. Good luck tomorrow at work. I hope you have a great week!
That is a perk about being a senior in our state – state park passes are free although we don’t use it often enough.
I love that motto Iliana – beautiful.
Love your motto! 😀
World of Wonders sounds interesting. I agree with you about the State Parks – we love to visit them, too.
Have a great week!
The older I get the more I like quieter areas as well. An annual park pass is just the right thing!
Yvonne @ Socrates Book Reviews – We are really enjoying re-watching the show. There is so much stuff I had forgotten! Really excited about the new series. Have a great week!
Diane – Oh that is a great perk! It’s hard to make time to go do that and I know we won’t be going every weekend or anything like that but definitely want to explore more! Glad you liked the motto 🙂
Lark – Isn’t it great? I needed some good positive energy to get me back on track after a week off from work 🙂
Gretchen – I hope you check it out. I’m enjoying it so far and the illustrations are really lovely. Have a great week!
Susan – It’s so important to get away from news, work, technology. I think we can all use some downtime in nature to think and chill out.
Oh, I hope you are enjoying World of Wonders. I liked it when I read it and it still pops into my mind now and then after about 6 months. Your cards sound fantastic, and cards for kindness looks wonderful. And of course, yay for getting outdoors! I hope going back to work after a week off wasn’t overly stressful.
Stefanie – I love it when a book stays with you long after. So far I’m really enjoying it! Unfortunately work was nuts today. I guess next time I should take off more time 🙂
We watched a lot of Dexter when it was first available, but my husband stopped when things started to get too dark (with John Lithgow’s character…). I might try to watch more and try the new limited series and see how it goes.
I’m a big fan of spending time in nature. I try to walk in the woods or near the beach as often as I can when we’re at home or traveling. Sometimes I just sit and listen to the birds or the waves or the wind rustling through the trees. It’s very calming. I hope you continue to enjoy spending time in your state parks. We love the Oregon state parks, although they’re so crowded these days. I thought it was the off season!! 😉
