Happy Sunday everyone! It’s time to catch up on what’s been going on around here lately. Â Thank you to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting the chat.
What I’m reading: I saw this book at a recent bookstore visit and couldn’t pass it up, Vampires of el Norte by Isabel Cañas. I just started it recently and it’s so atmospheric. As I started it I was reminded of the stories my Abuelita used to tell me when I was a kid.
What I’m watching: We just started watching Dark Winds and we’re totally hooked. I haven’t read any of the Tony Hillerman books featuring Detective Leaphorn & Chee, which is what the show is based on, but now I think I need to get my hands on those too. I actually saw these books a lot on my recent trip to New Mexico.
What I’m savoring: Envy apples. Where have I been? I do love apples but usually eat other varieties but I recently discovered these and they are now my favorites. I need to try some of the salad recipes although once the weather cools down I’m all about soup!
What’s on my craft table: Vintage magazines. I know I’m always talking about new magazines I’m reading but when I want to craft I turn to some vintage magazines to pull out images for collage or for my journal spreads. I love stickers and all types of new craft supplies but using vintage items really make things your own and I like the mix of old and new.
What made me smile: I got to spend time with one of my best friends this weekend. We’ve been friends since Junior year in high school so we always have lots of stuff to talk about.
What is my quote for the week: “Give me juicy autumnal fruit, ripe and red from the orchard.” ~Walt Whitman
I hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend and have a great week ahead!
I’m a big fan of the Tony Hillerman series about detectives Leaphorn and Chee, and the continuation by Ton’s daughter Anne Hillerman, which also follows Chee’s wife Bernie. All great books!
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
I have to see if Dark Winds is on Netflix. I have read and enjoyed several Hillerman books.
I have a friend who loves to craft, and she’s introduced me to that happy world. I had a lot of fun preparing a book to take along for my Italy trip.
We listened to a Tony Hillerman book on our last trip to New Mexico. I will see if I can find the Dark Winds series.
Glad you are enjoying Vampires of el Norte.
I loved the first season of Dark Winds and am looking forward to watching the second season soon. I think they did an excellent job of capturing the feel of the books. And I love all that Monument Valley scenery. 😀
Mae – So glad to hear you’ve enjoyed the books and I’m seriously considering picking one up!
Harvee – I don’t think it’s on Netflix but you can watch it via different streaming services. So far we are three episodes in and I love it!
Deb Nance at Readerbuzz – The wonderful thing about crafting is that there are so many possibilities and things to try! Can’t wait to hear more about the book you prepared for your trip. Hope you’ve made it back home safe & sound!
Lark – I may have heard about it from you first! What a great show and really want to read the books now. I didn’t make it to Monument Valley on my recent trip but hope to go back to New Mexico again one day and I can see more.
I’ll have to check out Dark Winds. It sounds good.
Hope you have a great week!
I will have to look for envy apples, those are new to me, but do sound yummy! Enjoy your books and have a great week!
I’ve never heard of envy apples but I will certainly look out for them! I hope you have a wonderful week ahead!
I really enjoyed Vampires of El Norte too! Those vintage magazines are neat! We have a lot of apples from our tree and I’ll be doing more apple pie filling and then canning it. Never had Envy apples but I’ll have to give them a try. Have a lovely week!
I like to try different apples in the fall — I’ll keep my eye out for Envy apples. Have fun with the vintage magazines! I like to research in vintage magazines, but I usually use the digital versions which don’t have anywhere near the same coziness factor.
I’ve never read anything by Hillerman, but I’ll look for Dark Winds when we get home.
We’ve been eating Envy apples for a couple of years. First discovered them when we were visiting my aunt in Santa Rosa (CA). Prior to that, we always ate Gala apples. Envys are much sweeter and more crisp, I think. As a matter of fact, I just had one right before I read your post! 🙂
I am glad you are enjoying Vampires of el Norte. I have heard good things about it. I am not familiar with Dark Winds, but it does sound good. I don’t think it plays on any of the streaming subscriptions I pay for, unfortunately. Maybe down the road. We sometimes switch it up. I hope you have a great week!
Yeah I might try the vampire novel and maybe try Dark Winds too. Both look good. Enjoy!
I have never heard of Envy apples before. I will have to look for them and give them a try! And yay for lunch with friends!
