Hello and happy Sunday everyone! It’s been too long since I joined in for a Sunday Salon catch up but here I am and let’s get this going. Thank you to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting the chat.
What I’m reading: I’ll tell you about all of my current reads in a separate post but you know I also love magazines and I am really enjoying the latest issue of Uppercase Magazine. Issue 58 deals with whimsy and finding renewed inspiration especially after creative ups and downs.
What I’m watching: For the past couple of weeks we’ve had a little hummingbird stop by throughout the day. Every time I look out the kitchen window into the backyard, I’m hoping I’ll catch a sight of him. My husband set up his tripod this week and took some great pictures of him.
What we’re making: We are still dealing with very high temps so lighter fare is great and this is a summer salad we enjoyed this week.
What I’ve started: At my annual check-up my doctor told me I really need to start incorporating more exercise and especially doing some weights so I’ve started doing some quick routines via my Fitbit App. Yeah, getting back into exercise after a while is so much harder in your 50s. Talk about feeling sore but at the same time feeling really positive and excited. Wish me luck!
What I’m looking forward to: It’s that time of the year when all the planners come out. The last couple of years I’ve been using a Legend Planner and I think that really helped me focus on setting goals, etc. but there are quite a few things that I’m not using in the planner and I am thinking of simplifying to a Leuchttrum1917 planner. So I’m looking forward to deciding which one soon and placing my order. I can’t believe I’m already thinking about next year!
What is my quote for the week: “I dwell in possibility” ~ Emily Dickinson
Enjoy the rest of the weekend and have a great week ahead!
Good luck with your exercising. It really is difficult to get into a routine.
I hope you have a great week!
Good luck with your new exercise regimen. I know that I need to add some weight training, too.
I’m eager to hear what you are reading right now. I look forward to seeing that post soon.
Love the hummingbird photo!
I need to add some sort of strength training to my exercise, but have no idea where to start. I use a fitbit, but had no idea that was in the app… will look around for it. We have plants that attract hummingbirds right outside out kitchen window and I’ve enjoyed watching them so much this summer! I’m thinking about adding a feeder next year!
I think I need to move my hummingbird feeder as it doesn’t get a lot of business. It’s in a rather sparse area of our yard and it would probably do better where there are other plants, what few we have. Thank you for sharing the photo! The hummingbird is beautiful. I am trying to fit exercise into my day too–I really need to, health wise. As much as I love planners, I am terrible about keep them up. I always get off to a promising start . . . I hope you have a great week!
What a beautiful photo of your hummingbird! I love seeing wildlife outside. I’m usually good with getting out and running/jogging but I’ve been trying to incorporate more strength training as well. So important for us in our 50s! Keeping our strength, flexibility, and balance is important as you age and helps prevent falls and such. I find a lot of routines on Instagram and Pinterest too. I follow nicole.toppa on Instagram and she has great, short routines. Good luck in your fitness goals!
Hummingbirds are fascinating. We’ve had a family of them drinking the nectar at our feeder, as they are getting ready to fly to Mexico for the winter and they have to bulk up!
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
I actually looooove strength training, but HATE aerobics, which is what I need to build my endurance for hiking hills and staircases. lol
I have lots of notebooks that I use as planners but none that is designed just for that purpose. Sounds like a good idea.
Great photo of the hummingbird!
I walk every day, and once things settle down and it starts getting rainy, I’ll get back to indoor pickleball, but I really need to get back to my weights. I have a set of 3, 5, 8, 10 lbs, but haven’t used them in ages. Need to create a new routine 3 times a week. It’s not like I don’t have the time. Just need to get motivated. Good luck to you!
I love that Dickinson quote! And good luck with your exercise goals. You can do it! 😀
Yvonne @ Socrates Book Reviews – It totally does, doesn’t it? I would say why didn’t anyone tell me but it’s easy to fall into bad habits as opposed to good ones! Have a wonderful week!
Deb Nance @ Readerbuzz – I hope you are having a wonderful time in Italy. I’ll have to keep you posted on the exercises but so far I’m doing some really short routines but trying to be consistent.
Joann @ Gulfside Musing – If you pay the premium membership you can find tons of exercises on the Fitbit App. It can be a bit pricey but I really like that you can find a wide range of routines from 5 minutes to 30 or more. I recommend getting a feeder but they do certainly require maintenance so the birds will stay healthy.
Literary Feline – I’m surprised really because our garden area is really in need of some care but I guess this little guy found the right spot and has enjoyed it! It’s so hard to build in a workout routine when there is so much going on in daily life but maybe you can do shorter routines at least to begin with. Too funny about planners but I know what you mean. Some years I’m more successful than others but having lots of stickers helps 🙂
Rachel @ Waves of Fiction – My mom fell last year and broke her hip so I’ve definitely seen first hand how hard that is and am promising myself to keep at this! I love walking but like you said it’s also about flexibility/balance and strength! Thank for the tip on Nicola on Instagram!
Mae – They are beautiful aren’t they? I’ve just learned that there are several varieties here in the Central Texas area so I’m hoping I get to spot a different one one of these days!
Jinjer – There’s just too much we have to do to stay healthy right? 🙂 Good for you for at least keeping up with your strength training!
Harvee – I’m a total notebook junkie too. Let me know if there’s a favorite one you have as I love to use them for notes (duh) but also for collaging and journaling.
Lesley – My set of weights are 2, 3 & 5 and believe me I had to dust them off and clean them before I could use them! haha… Motivation is half the battle right? Good for you though for getting in your walks which is a great way to stay active.
Lark – Isn’t it lovely? Thank you! So far so good!
