Happy weekend everyone! I hope it’s been a relaxing one for you. I thought I’d do a bit of catching up with another Sunday Salon post. Thank you to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting the chat.
What I’m watching: We started Stay Close which is based on a Harlan Coben novel. It’s ok. There are two characters that totally annoy me but luckily they’re not on screen much. Honestly, would probably give up on this one but now that we are halfway through I want to know what the mystery is!
What I’m reading: I’ve started reading The Nakano Thrift Shop by Hiromi Kawakami; translated by Allison Markin Powell. This book is reminding me that it’s been ages since I’ve been thrifting and I’d love to go explore some local shops. So far a good read.
What I’m listening to: I love all types of music but lately to relax and focus I’ve been starting my mornings and ending my evenings with some classical music. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve replayed this Mozart piece (Piano Concerto #20, in D Minor). One of my favorites.
What I’m dreaming about: Through a bookbinding Facebook group I read about a bookbinder in Germany who is selling her studio and I thought, can you imagine? The space looks beautiful and it’s close to Berlin. I could host bookbinding and art journaling classes and my husband could teach calligraphy. Well one can dream, right?
What is my quote for the week: “Do stuff. Be clenched, curious. Not waiting for inspiration’s shove or society’s kiss on your forehead. Pay attention. It’s all about paying attention. Attention is vitality.” ~ Susan Sontag
Wishing you a great week ahead and lots of good books!
It would be lovely for you to own a bookbinding studio, but Berlin might be a little too far away for me. lol I’ve always wanted to learn how to make my own book.
I’ve up to the end of October in Another Year of Wonder. It is almost time for me to make a list of my favorites from the book on Spotify.
My granddaughter loves to thrift, and it’s been too long since I’ve done it as well.
I’ll be interested to hear what you think of The Nakano Thrift Shop… it’s waiting on my kindle. Earlier this year I read The Ten Loves of Nishino by the same author and it was just okay, but this one sounds more appealing. Classical musical can be so relaxing!
Thanks for the heads-up about Stay Close. Some of the shows based on Coben’s books are good, but this sounds like one I can skip.
Wouldn’t that be fun for you to move to Germany and buy that bookbinder’s studio! I’d come visit. 🙂
Deb Nance @ Readerbuzz – Haha.. bookbinding is so much fun and I love that you can make super easy structures or very complicated ones and they are all special. Can’t wait to hear what you think of Another Year of Wonder. I’ve had the first book on my wishlist for a while. Thrifting is so fun isn’t it?
Joann @ Gulfside Musing – It’s really delightful so far so I hope you enjoy it. I love the awkwardness of the main characters. And, something that I also really like is when they discuss food because it’s just so different from the typical food you find here in Texas. I’d love to try some of the stuff they mention.
Lesley – I’ve seen another show, The Stranger, I believe and that one was entertaining. This one is really getting on my nerves. Two episodes to go so hopefully we’ll finish this week. I would love to move to Germany. It’s been a dream of mine since I met my husband. Who knows maybe one day and yes, you are invited to come visit! 🙂
I’m also interested in the Nakano Thrift Shop. What an interesting occupation, book binding.
The Nakano Thrift Shop is appealing — I love Japanese literature of that type, because it shows a really different world from my own.
best… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
I haven’t been thrifting for a long time, I think it’s time. I have found some stuff that I couldn’t find anywhere else.
Love that quote! And The Nakano Thrift Shop sounds like a fun book. Have a great week. 😀
Hi Iliana, I’ll be curious to read whether you enjoyed – The Nakano Thrift Shop as I
own a copy but, just have not even thought about it until I read this post. LOL This is why Kindle “buy now” is dangerous for me – I click and then forget about it since it’s on a virtual shelf and not staring at me.
hope you get your book binding shop some day. Have a great week.
Harvee – I’ve been learning about bookbinding for quite a while now and really enjoy it. It’s so relaxing and a great way to be creative!
Mae – I agree. I’m a big fan of Japanese literature too and would love to visit Japan one day to see so many of the things I’ve read about through such great stories.
Vicki – That’s the best part about thrifting isn’t it? I love finding cool jewelry and paper items like books, letters, and photographs.
Lark – I love it too and makes me think, yeah, we’ve got to be curious about everything! Enjoy your week too!
Diane – Oh I know the feeling! haha.. Those quick buys and ARCS on Netgalley are so dangerous! I hope you get a chance to move this one up on your TBR list.
Harlan Coben’s books are a hit-or-miss to me so I’ll probably skip that book. The Nakano Thrift Shop sounds interesting so I’ll add this to my wishlist. Hope you’ve a great week, Iliana!
