Hello Friends and happy weekend. There’s nothing like jumping back into a blogging routine by joining in on Sunday Salon. Thank you to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting the chat.
What I’m watching: This summer I’ve binged on Better Call Saul. I’ve not watch Breaking Bad but my husband kept telling me that I should and so I thought I’d start with BCS and I love it! I can’t believe the last episode is this Monday. I don’t want it to end but at least I do have Breaking Bad to look forward to after we finish it.
What I’m reading: I’m throughly enjoying Elena Knows by Claudia Pineiro; translated by Frances Riddle. I’ve read several other books by Claudia Pineiro but this one is certainly different. Yes, there’s a mystery but it’s so much more. I can see why it was shortlisted for this years International Booker Prize list.
What I’m sipping: It’s been so hot here in Austin this summer. I say this every year but since May 21 we’ve had 63 days of 100+ temps. Needless to say, I’ve needed some cold drinks and I’ve hooked on Waterloo Sparkling Water, I particularly love the watermelon flavor.
What made me smile: The Texas Book Festival is back in person this year. This wonderful literary event takes place every November but due to the pandemic the last couple of years it’s been virtual and hybrid. I’m hoping, crossing fingers, etc. that I’ll be able to attend at least a couple of the reading events.
What is my quote for the week: “Nothing is worth more than laughter. It is strength to laugh and to abandon oneself, to be light.†~ Frida Kahlo.
It’s always a good reminder that laughing is good for the soul.
I hope you have a wonderful rest of the weekend, enjoy some good reads and look forward to the week ahead!
Elena Knows by Claudia Pineiro sounds very interesting. Unfortunately, it’s not at my library yet. I’ll keep watching for it.
That’s wonderful news about the Texas Book Festival. I’ve added it to my calendar. Wouldn’t it be fun to meet up for the festival this year? And I do hope it does not have to be made virtual again.
Hi Iliana, Sounds like you are starting to get back to routines – always a good thing IMO. Elena Knows sounds like a ME book, I’d like to read it so thanks for blogging about it. All that hot weather would damper my spirits. It was hot, low 90s and humid for several days and I just wanted to stay in with AC. Now 80 and almost no humidity which is perfect summer weather. Have a good week.
Deb Nance at Readerbuzz – Please do keep watching for it because it is really good! And, yes, we should try to make that happen! I’ve missed the book festival a lot and it would be great to go in person again.
Diane – I’m trying, baby steps! haha.. I think you would love this book. It packs a punch and such a slim novel to boot. Oh that does sound like the perfect summer weather – I’m a bit jealous 🙂
63 days of 100+ temperatures?!? Wow! I hope you get some relief soon!
Yay for the Book Festival! I hope it is in-person this year and you get to attend!
Love that quote! And I guess I need to stop complaining about the record 21 days of 100+ temps we had here in Salt Lake this summer; compared with your 63 days our summer was practically balmy. ;D
Stefanie – I heard a weather report today and they said hopefully we’ve seen the end of 100+ temps. I really hope so! Isn’t it wonderful to once again be able to plan for in person literary events. Hopefully things are no worse than they are now.
Lark – Haha, I’m sure there are other places that have been worse than here but makes me really want to read some cold place settings at least. Glad you enjoyed Frida’s words.
I liked Better Call Saul but have not watched a lot of it. I hear he might not do well at the end and I don’t want to see that.
I would love to go to a book festival! Watermelon sounds like a nice flavour. We are still in heatwave, drought and hosepipe bans here in the UK – sigh.
Have a great week!

Ooh, you should give Breaking Bad a try. We loved it and I’ve considered watching the whole series again. Right now we’re re-watching Deadwood, which is just as good as the first time. Great acting & writing!
I sure hope your temps begin to cool down soon. We’re back in Oregon and it’s lovely, but not too chilly, for which I’m happy. The sun is shining and it’s maybe 70.
I hope you get to attend the TX book festival this year (and meet up with Deb!). So nice that so many events are returning to in-person attendance.
I love that quote about laughter. My husband has a great sense of humor (very dry, but funny) and he still makes me laugh out loud after all these years.
Breaking Bad is pretty addictive! But also thanks for reminding me about Better Call Saul — that’s one show I’d planned to watch and then forgot all about it. And speaking of lightness, I’ll add one quote here from GK Chesterton — Angels can fly because they can take themselves lightly. 🙂
That’s too many scorching days there! I don’t know how people get through it. (Though I once went to college in San Antone!) I hope you are well. The book festival would be fun … glad to see your blog back …
Harvee – I really did like the end and hope you get around to watching it. What a great show but now I’m thinking what to watch next!
Emily @ Budget Tales Book Blog – I’ve heard that Europe is also experiencing a major heatwave. We have family in Germany and they are over the heat that’s for sure! Hope you get some relief soon!
Lesley – My husband has talked me into watching Breaking Bad so we will watch it but I think I need a bit of a break from the characters. I need to process BCS 🙂 I’ve been loving the photos you are sharing and those temps sound divine! It would be awesome to go to the book fest and meet up with Deb. Fingers crossed we can make it happen. And, yes, nothing like great laughter. Hope you and your husband share many more years of laughs!
Lex @ Lexlingua – That’s what my husband said, that we’ll have to have marathons of BB! I love the quote you shared. I’m adding that one in my journal 🙂
Susan – Thank goodness for AC! Granted, I would like to go out and enjoy nature and not pass out from the heat. Haha… Thank you – it’s great to be dipping back into blogland. Have missed everyone!
