Hello Friends and happy Sunday. I’m looking forward to a quiet day but first I’m happy to be here for Sunday Salon and thank you to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting the chat.
What I’m watching: We started watching a new show on Netflix, The Chestnut Man. This was a favorite read of mine a couple of years ago so I’m looking forward to see how it’s adapted for the screen. We’ve only watched the first episode but so far so good, and you know I love Scandinavian crime shows so I’m excited to watch a new one.
What I’m reading: I finished one book out of the four I’m reading for reading challenges this month. I read Henrietta’s War by Joyce Dennys for Novellas in November. I would like to read another but then again I a bit behind on my other challenge reads and would like to finish those before starting another book.
What I’m listening to: A non-challenge read I did start last week was The Perfect Family by Robyn Harding. A domestic thriller where four family members are each hiding a secret. I enjoyed Her Pretty Face several years ago and this one is quite good so far and perfect for my commute.
What’s cooking:Â It’s soup season! We love soups in the fall and winter and yesterday we used our Instant Pot and made butternut squash soup. It was delicious and best of all we had leftover so we don’t have to think about what was for lunch today. Just some bread as a side and we were set. If you have a favorite soup recipe please share.
What made me smile: Knowing I have a week off from work! Can’t wait to enjoy some downtime this week.
Poem for the week: It’s easy to say all of Mary Oliver’s poems but don’t these lines just speak to you?
“So come to the pond,
or the river of your imagination,
or the harbor of your longing,
and put your lips to the world.
And live,
your life.â€
~Mornings at Blackwater
I hope you have a great weekend and can’t wait to hear what you’ve been up to. For those of you in the States, do you have big plans for Thanksgiving?
Chestnut Man could be a show my husband would like. I will look for it.
I had hoped to only read nonfiction this month, but my plans got tossed aside to finish a book club read and a Classics Club spin.
Isn’t it wonderful to contemplate a week off work?! That’s the best.
Happy Thanksgiving, Iliana!
Your fall soup makes me want to take out the crockpot and make some soups. I’ll have to wait until after Thanksgiving though. Enjoy the week off Iliana – well deserved I’m sure. We are having 10-11 on Thursday.
I started Chestnut Man but then lost track of it; instead, we’ve just dipped into the new Dexter series.
It’s not soup, but this is my favourite squash thing these days…I just can’t seem to get bored of it!

(FWIW, my partner is not super crazy about coconut, but somehow this recipe really works for both of us.)
I’ll have to read up on The Chestnut Man. I’m not familiar with the plot and while I think we would enjoy it, I want to make sure it isn’t too disturbing before we start watching.
We’ve been eating a lot of stews and soups this month. I love having enough for several meals, especially since like you, I’m always at a loss for what to have on hand for lunches.
Ah, Mary Oliver. Wonderful words!
Enjoy your week off, Iliana, and I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving.
Love those Mary Oliver words! And your butternut squash soup sounds very yummy. 😀
We love soup! I haven’t made Butternut Bisque, my fall favorite, yet, but certainly will within the next couple of weeks. Henrietta’s War has been on my tbr list for quite some time… I never did get to read anything for Novellas in November. Happy Thanksgiving!
I love soup season! My husband made a huge pot of homemade chicken and rice soup that kept me happy for days! I’ll check out the butternut squash recipe, and I have chickpea soup recipe somewhere that I’ve wanted to try.
Hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving week off work with soup and books–relax and enjoy!
I made a pumpkin chili today, which is yummy! Tis the season for the soups and chili! Here is my link for TTT which discusses my Thanksgiving plans. Enjoy your week off! https://cindysbookcorner.blogspot.com/2021/11/top-ten-tuesday-thanksgiving-edition.html
The Chestnut Man sounds like a good one. I just finished Midnight Mass and really enjoyed it. Enjoy your week off and happy reading! I love butternut squash soup.. Happy Thanksgiving Iliana! We’re having a quiet one at home so I can stay in pajamas all day 🙂
I love butternut squash soup, and pretty much butternut squash everything 🙂 Enjoy your week off! Happy Thanksgiving!
I don’t think I’ve heard of The Chestnut Man. I’ll have to check it out. Butternut squash soup sounds good.
Have a great weekend!
