Hello Friends and happy weekend. I have a very busy work week ahead so I’m going to make the most of this Sunday. Perhaps a nap and of course some reading time but for now I’m here for another Sunday Salon and thank you to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting the chat.
What I’m watching: I’m hooked on journaling videos on YouTube. Sometimes I prefer to watch art journaling videos or techniques on junk journaling but lately I’m into Traveler’s Notebooks. Two channels I enjoy are Job’s Journal and Skylar Hand Studio. I’ve been keeping a TN journal for a couple of years now and typically I write in it a few times a month but these last couple of months I haven’t been very inspired so watching these videos helps jumpstart my creativity.
What I’m reading: I’m about to finish This House is Haunted by John Boyne. Not as chilling as The Haunting of Maddy Clare by Simone St. James which I read recently but this has had some good moments. I’m still in the mood for some scary reads but not sure which one I’ll pick up next.
What made me smile this week: Beautiful Asters. Â After the crazy freeze we had in February we did lose some plants. I wasn’t sure if these were going to come back but they are looking beautiful and best of all the bees love them. Every time I pass them I see a bunch of bees buzzing around them.
What’s in my tote bag: For work this week, aside from my laptop, notebook and wallet, what else am I carrying in my tote bag? Lip balm is a must. I miss lipstick but not fun when wearing a mask. Â My other necessity is a fountain pen. I have become a pen snob! Since working from home I have been strictly using fountain pens and now I realize that a regular ball point pen feels weird. So one of my Lamy Safari pens is going in my bag. You’re probably wondering what about a book? Thanks to Libby, I’ll be set.
What is my quote for the week:Â “Each day, and the living of it, has to be a conscious creation in which discipline and order are relieved with some play and pure foolishness.” ~ May Sarton. Isn’t that wonderful? Must remember this.
Have a wonderful weekend, enjoy some good reads and have a great week ahead!
The asters are beautiful! Love the quote, too. 🙂
I agree, lip balm is a must! Enjoy the videos on YouTube, I’ve found so many helpful and interesting channels on there for crochet.
Happy Sunday and I hope you got to nap today 🙂
Beautiful Asters, and I love that quote!
Iliana, I love that quote – so true. The Asters are lovely an a favorite color too. I loved Simone St. James book: The Sundown Motel – have you read it? Fountain pen snob made me smile as I am also a stationery snob –journals, notebooks, writing paper and nice pens and cool office supplies. Lip stick and masks are like oil and water but, I try – need to get some new colorless lip balm as well.
Have a great week Iliana!
Jen Mullen – I think we need more! Once we find a plant that thrives we figure we need to add to our garden 🙂
Bookworm – I love watching videos on YouTube. So many cool things you can learn right? The only bad thing is then I want to buy a lot of the stuff I see! haha… and, yes, I did sneak in a nap today ::)
Vicki – So glad you enjoyed the quote. It’s a good one to remember!
Diane – It’s so true right? We need to find ways to have some fun. I haven’t read The Sundown Motel but I definitely want to read more by Simone St. James. And, yes, I love stationery of all kinds too. I’m such a paper junkie! haha..Have a wonderful week!
Those asters are just gorgeous… love the color! Perfect quote, too. I’ll bet lipstick sales are way down since the pandemic began. I’ve only purchased a tube or two in the last 18 months! Smudged lipstick on the inside of a mask is gross. Glad you’re enjoying the RIP reads.
I love journaling videos too! They do increase my creativity. I tend to go in streaks – get really into it for a while, then don’t do much for a while.
Asters are such a happy flower. Love that picture!
Have a great week!
I often travel with a book too, a paper one or one on an ereader. Happy reading this autumn!
We saw lovely purple flowers when we were hiking, and we looked them up on iNaturalist and learned they were asters. So pretty.
I always carry my journal and a book with me. I’m hooked on a specific type of pen that came in a curbside delivery during the pandemic. I hope I can find it again when I run out.
Our public library has something called Creativebug that has online video classes. I’ve done several of these.
I love asters. They’re one of my favorite fall flowers. 🙂
The asters are beautiful. I love the color. Hope you have a great week!
I was not aware that John Boyne had written a gothic novel. Looks like it came out almost a decade ago. I have The Absolutist in my stacks and loved The Hearts Invisible Furies and A Ladder to the Sky, so I’ll have to look into This House is Haunted. I’m glad it’s not too scary. 😉
I never wear lipstick (have never found a color that I like), so I have lip balm scattered all over the house, in my purse, in both cars, etc. Can’t live without it!
Beautiful asters. All of our blooming flowers are finished with the exception of some begonias. I think they’re enjoying all the rain we’ve had this past week.
I’m going to steal your quote from May Sarton. Thank you!
Enjoy your week. I hope the weather is just how you like it.
Wow those asters are very pretty. Love the color. Our plants are dying from frost lately but our petunias are hanging tough!
Hmm journaling videos … never thought of that … but I might check them out, thanks.
The Asters are very pretty, I’m not so keen on bees though since I’m allergic.
Wishing you a great reading week
Those Asters are beautiful! Speaking of lipstick, I really miss wearing them! I’ve a collection of them and it’s sad seeing them not in use. 🙁
I’m afraid I’m no help on horror/ spooky books, but if you’re up for movies, you can always (re)watch Crimson Peak. Other than that, I’m taking down all the stuff you’ve recced here — including the journaling videos, the Lamy pen, and that quote. And that lovely photo of the asters.
