So who’s got reading plans this summer? I know it’s that time of the year when we see articles about beach reads, blockbusters, etc. I like the idea of summer reads but honestly I think my reading tends to be the same year round.
That said there are two reading challenges/projects that have come up that I’ll be participating in. I know, like I really need another challenge when I’m trailing behind on my challenges. Oh well, it’s all in the spirit of community.
The first one is the Japanese Literature Reading Challenge hosted by Dolce Bellezza. This is the 9th year that she is hosting this wonderful challenge that encourages readers to read works by Japanese authors. I have participated several years and even if I read just one book I’m always happy to add discover a new author.
I don’t have a list of potential books yet but I wouldn’t mind reading something again by Banana Yoshimoto, Keigo Higashino, or Yasunari Kawabata. I’ll keep you posted! Oh and for this challenge all you need to do is read at least one book and it runs through the end of January 2016.
The other project is Estella’s Society Project Season 3. Andi and Heather have put together a great list of books to choose from which you can check here. Read one or more of the titles and share your thoughts.
Some of the books on that made the list have been on my TBR list for a while so this might be the perfect time to get to them right? This season runs through September 1, 2015 and you can read one, two, however many books you can.
Are you joining in some of these?
I noticed that A Tale For the Time Being is on Estella’s list, so you could double dip! Either way, I’m so glad for you to join in the JLC9 again. It’s not fancy, and it’s not hard, but it is so wonderful to share Japanese literature together. xo
I think I should join the Japanese Reading Challenge! When the Emperor was Divine has been on my tbr list for years. Happy reading!
My reading tends to be the same year round too. I participate in the Top Ten lists each week and this week and next are about new releases and planned reading. I am terrible about planning my reading in advance, but I do like making lists. So the second part at least I can do. Just don’t expect me to get to all or anything on my lists. LOL
I wasn’t going to participate in any events or challenges this year, but I will be joining the COYER Scavenger Hunt, I think. It sounds like fun and will allow my reading to remain as free to my moods as I need it to be. I haven’t looked into the two you mention yet.
I hope you have a great week.
They both sound like fun! I wouldn’t mind reading something by a Japanese author–maybe another book by Murakami since the one I read at the beginning of the year was so good! And I saw the list Andi came up with and it looks quite tempting as well! I look forward to seeing what you choose!
Ah, I need to read more Japanese literature. I think I’ve one or two on my shelf so it’s a matter of time (or mood). Hope you’ve a great week! 🙂
Enjoy the challenges. I have had my eye on the Japanese Reading Challenge for a few years. Hopefully, I’ll jump in next year. I love doing reading challenges over the summer. I feel that it is the best time to do structured reading (for me).
