I’ve been going to the bookstore but believe it or not I haven’t bought any new books lately. Well, I did buy a zine, Sleepercar by Theo Ellsworth and a fun journal at Journalfest but no books. Still, this is Casa de Bookgirl so you know new books have arrived anyway.
The first is a book I won in a giveaway Sandy had, The Spies of Warsaw by Alan Furst. I actually got this one last week but with the madness of going out of town and such I forgot to mention it. Thank you, Sandy!
I also received an ARC of the book Tattoo by Manuel Vázquez Montalbán. This is a mystery series set in Barcelona featuring private detective Pepe Carvalho, and ex-cop, ex-marxist and constant gourmet. Sounds quite original doesn’t it? I’m digging the cover of that one too. Reminds me of old noir books. By the way, if you are into book cover design, here’s an interesting interview with the designer.
The other books I got were via Bookmooch. After Les in Ne mention Losing Julia by Johnathan Hull I had to get my hands on it and luckily found a copy of it. Sounds like a very moving story. I then found L.A. Outlaws by T.Jefferson Parker which is a book for my mystery book group. And, finally the last book is also another mystery but this one of the international variety, Devil’s Peak by Deon Meyer.
And, you know, I did get a little coupon for 40% off a book at Border’s so maybe this weekend I will treat myself to a new book. I think I’ll go think about which book I’d like.
Congrats on winning the book, Iliana!
Looks like you’ve some great reads ahead! Can’t wait to hear what you’ll think of them.
Hope you have a great weekend! 🙂
Nice list of books! I got that crazy 40% coupon on as well, and printed it out. The book I want would need to be ordered…we’ll see if I cave!
Yay! Glad you found a copy of Losing Julia. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! There are some beautiful passages is this gem.
That’s a pretty awesome cover on that zine, love how the guy is made of a house and furniture! You’re always reminding me I need to read more mystery, it’s one of my reading black spots.
Lots of book goodies and I am sure more to come! Are you going to the Book Festival?
Enjoy your new books!
great list of books…love the header…happy halloween
Sound like some great books. Enjoy.
Your new books sound great! Have fun at Borders this weekend!
Melody – I hope you have a great weekend too! Hope your little one is feeling much better too 🙂
Sandy – Ooh, I let’s see who has more will power to resist the coupon! haha…
Les in NE – I just loved your review of that book so I was so happy to find a copy. Every review I read of it is a good one – yay!
Jodie – Isn’t his art great? I think I heard that he didn’t study art formally. Wow, I’m so impressed.
Christine – I don’t know if I’ll go to the book festival. I know, time to turn in my bookgirl credentials right? ha. I’m just in a great crafting mode that I sort of don’t want to lose that. We’ll see 🙂
Kailana – I will! Now if only I can find some room for them. haha….
Serena (Savvy Verse & Wit) – Thank you! I’m so big on Halloween I just had to “dress up” the blog 🙂
vivienne – They all sound good don’t they? Can’t wait!
Dorothy W. – I’m looking forward to indulging in some serious magazine reading at the bookstore 🙂
Great list you have there. I have been wanting to read Devil’s Peak. How did you like it?
I have a new book to brag about. I just finished it and loved it. It’s for all the mom’s out there!!
The book is called “Mystic in a Minivan” and it’s written by the wonderful and talented Kristen White. She’s a mom of 3 kids who was inspired to tell a story as a result of her spiritual practice spiritual practice. She uses many of the tools in the book and it has transformed her life in a magical way. She even has a work book that I cannot brag enough about oh and I found out that she is going to do book signings out of her minivan. How cool is that?! You have to check it out. I don’t brag about many books, only the good ones!!
