I’ve really lucked out with some great ARCs recently. Some have been unrequested but nevertheless I’m glad to have them, and those I did request I can’t wait to start. So, let me tell you about the new books which have arrived recently.
- Land of Marvels by Barry Unsworth. I loved his novel Morality Play so I’m looking forward to reading this one which sounds completely different.
- Blood Song by Cat Adams. Vampires, psychics, werewolves, oh my.
- The Case of the Missing Servant by Tarquin Hall. A mystery series set in India. You know I love to travel the world with my sleuths so I’m excited about this one.
- Tomorrow River by Lesley Kagen. A 12-year-old child tries to make sense of her mother’s disappearance.
- Read, Remember, Recommend by Rachelle Rogers Knight. I know a lot of you have already checked this one out. I’ve skimmed through it a bit and have enjoyed it so far.
- Broken Glass Park by Alina Bronsky – A novel of a young girl who dreams of writing novels and of ending the life of the man who murdered her mom.
- Boneshaker by Cherie Priest. A steampunk adventure. Can’t say I’ve tried that before so looking forward to it!
- Alone With You by Marisa Silver. Short stories exploring relationships and love.
- Spellwright by Blake Charlton. Story about a trained wizard who can’t cast a spell. Maybe I’ll have to read this one for the Once Upon a Time Challenge.
- Writing Jane Austen by Elizabeth Aston. A writer lands the contract of a lifetime, finish a recently discovered Jane Austen manuscript.
- Beatrice and Virgil by Yann Martel. The latest book from the author of the bestselling book Life of Pi, which by the way, I still haven’t read. Still on my TBR list though.
Anyway, don’t these sound good? Have you read some of these? Is there one you think I should start with first?

Wow, you have a lovely haul there, Iliana! All of them sound good to me, and I’m glad you have enjoyed Read, Remember, Recommend. I don’t think I have a read a journal like it so it’s definitely a keeper for me.
Happy reading! I hope you have a great weekend ahead! 🙂
I cannot wait to read Beatrice and Virgil. I loved Life of Pi so much. I can’t wait to hear your reviews of the book.
Have a great weekend.
I guess I am not really anonymous…that would be kinda scary. 🙂
Aside from Read, Remember, Recommend, which I think is default insta-love for book-lovers, I’m very excited for Alone With You–I first heard about it in Publisher’s Weekly, and was so intrigued.
So envious of you and these new lovely books! Have fun. :]
Melody – I was surprised by how many had accumulated too! Don’t get me wrong, I love having that kind of problem 🙂 The RRR book will be a good keeper for any bookworm. Have a great weekend too!
ali – It seems Life of Pi is such a great book. I don’t know why I never got around to it but now that I have the new one I may try it first 🙂
Sasha – So true about the RRR book! I know I read a review about Alone With You somewhere else too and it did sound wonderful. I don’t read very many short stories so I think that one will be great to read. By the way, I’m having fun finding places for them on the shelves!
I haven’t read any of these, but I’m quite curious about Yann Martell’s new book. I loved Life of Pi. It took a long time to get interested in it, but once I did, I was enthralled!
Lotta loot you got there! Have fun!
What a great pile! I got a copy of Read, Remember, Recommend too. Thanks for reminding me about it. 🙂
Wow! Very nice pile of books! I’m really looking forward to Beatrice and Virgil. I loved The Life of Pi. I thought you had read it. Well, when you do, you are in for a treat 🙂
You always find the best mysteries! I can’t wait to hear what you think of them. Hope you have a nice weekend.
Some great books there. I have Boneshaker, I got it for Christmas but I still haven’t read it .
Boneshaker sounds fantastic! Well, so do many of the others, but this one is right up my alley. Happy reading, Iliana!
Wow! You sure do have a nice new stack of books!
Les in NE – I’m having a blast just organizing these on my shelves 🙂
Eva – I have skimmed through it a bit and it’s great. Now I just need to do a bit more reading and using and I can review it!
Stefanie – I know, I’m like the last person right? haha… I’m looking forward to it – both. They both sound fun!
Kathleen – I haven’t read any mysteries set in India so I’m very excited about this one. The blurb on the back likens it to the Mma Ramotswe books which I love.
vivienne – It looks good doesn’t it? Actually I’m thinking that would probably work for the Once Upon a Time challenge too!
Nymeth – I’ve been wanting to try a book by Cherie Priest so I was so excited to get this one. I’ll have to keep you posted!
Tara – I know! 🙂
That is quite a stack of books! I have a couple of those on my shelf. I received a copy of Beatrice and Virgil too–haven’t decided yet if I want to read it. I have read a few good reviews of it so far.
Thanks for mentioning all these books. I have Tomorrow River as well and I will start it soon!
I’ve just started the Bronsky book and really like it so far. I think Sascha Naimann is going to be an interesting character. I’ve never read Barry Unsworth, but I do have Morality Play on hand. I like authors who can write such totally different books. The Tarquin Hall mystery sounds good as well. Enjoy your new books.
Nice list of books 🙂 I havent read any of these but they sound good. Especially Blood Song and Alone With You.
Lot’s of good books to choose from!
Lots of good looking books, there! Enjoy!!
Writing Jane Austen looks really good. I also received Beatrice and Virgil unrequested; not sure when I’ll get a chance to read it. Enjoy your new books!
