December was an amazing month for books bought, gifted, exchanged, etc. As you can see in the picture that’s a lot of books that I need to add to my shelves but I’m not complaining!
First I was super excited to get an autographed copy of Sailing by Starlight by Rod Scher. A non-fiction piece on an incredible nautical journey. Also, don’t forget to leave a review in time to enter the giveaway that Lesley is hosting! You have until end of the month.
I also received two Advance Review Copies: Trouble by Kate Ivar and Birthright by Charles Lambert.
A dear friend of mine knows I love poetry and she gifted me, Weaving Sundown in a Scarlet Light by Joy Harjo. I’ve only read a couple of her poems here and there so I’m very excited about this collection.
One of our local independent bookstores, Malvern Books, closed last week but I made it out to their closing sale on Christmas Eve and bought a The Wall by Mary Roberts Rhinehart, Mamma by Diana Tutton, The Chandelier by Clarice Lispector, The Dead Girls’ Class Trip by Anna Seghers, The Women of Weird Tales, The 6:41 to Paris by Jean-Philippe Blondel, and a little Christmas ghost story, How Fear Departed the Long Gallery, by E.F. Benson. I’m still hopeful about the bookstore returning with new owners or in some other way.
Then for Christmas my husband gifted me Make Ink, A Happy Poem to End Every Day, The Haunting Season, and The Magic Hour. Love all of these!
If all of this wasn’t enough, after Christmas B&N had a sale of 50% off of all hardcovers so I couldn’t resist and got Nightcrawling by Leila Mottley and Witches by Brenda Lozano. Don’t these books have great covers?
Finally, Half Price Books was also having a holiday sale and during my week off between Christmas and New Year I had to visit one of the local shops and got The Door by Magda Szabo, Indian Summer by William Dean Howells, and Which Way by Theodora Benson.
Oh and I forgot that there are a couple of other books that I got via my Mystery Book club end of year exchange. And, I have a B&N gift card I received which is burning a hole in my pocket. It was a total bookish month and I loved it. Now to find time to read all of these and shelf space!
How about you, did you get some books for Christmas or do a bit of book shopping yourself?
That’s a huge stack of new books, Iliana!! I just posted about my new stack a few minutes ago. Isn’t it fun/thrilling to have all those just waiting to be read? It’s probably a good thing that the closest Barnes & Noble is 90 minutes away. I doubt I could resist their hardcover sale!
Thank you so much for the shout-out about Rod’s book (and his giveaway)! We hope you enjoy the book.
Iliana, hope you enjoy all your new books! How fun that you got to check out so many sales! We’re all going to have a fun time with reading in 2023, right? LOL
Now that’s a HUGE stack of books! I’ll look forward to your thoughts as you you make your way through them – Enjoy!
What a lovely stack of new books! Looks like you’ll have plenty to read this year. π
Hope youΓ’β¬β’ll enjoy my morning train Γ°ΕΈΛΕ. Happy new year!
Good luck with all these books! Santa was good to you.
Wow! Enjoy all your new books! I like the idea of A Happy Poem to End Every Day. I meant to drive out to my fav B&N location for the 50% sale but haven’t made it out there. I know they have it online also but it’s so much better book shopping in person. Happy reading!
Lesley – It’s so cool that B&N has that sale. If I had my gift card with me by then I would have gotten more! haha… It’s wonderful to have so many new books waiting to read!
Kay – That’s right, all good books for 2023! I hope you had a great time with your book group and can’t wait to hear about the new books you have on your radar!
JoAnn@Gulfside Musing – I have started a couple of my new books so will be doing a current reads soon. I think I went overboard π
Lark – I know right? As If I needed more books but it’s a wonderful problem to have π
Jean-Philippe Blondel – Oh my goodness thank you so much for stopping by. I’ve heard some wonderful things about your book and definitely looking forward to it. Happy New Year!
Deb Nance at Readerbuzz – I definitely need all the luck. Or time! If I could make time stand still for a bit I think I could get through more!
Bookworm – I read a poem ever day last year with a different book and it was so much fun. I love discovering poems I’ve never read and of course re-reading favorites. You are so right, nothing beats an in person book sale!
December was a big book month for us too–mostly my daughter. π It looks like you have some good sounding books there! I have Witches on my TBR shelf and am looking forward to reading it. I’ll have to add A Happy Poem to End Every Day to my wish list. Here’s to a great new year in reading!
Literary Feline – I love that your daughter is also a bookworm! So glad you guys also filled your stockings/shelves with lots of books. I really hope we’ll have some great reads this year!
That’s a lovely haul you’ve there, Iliana! I hope you enjoy reading them all and I look forward to your thoughts on them. π
