I ended up not getting in as much reading as I thought I would. I got motivated to do some crafting instead so I spent a good part of the day gluing book boards and folding paper. Sounds exciting doesn’t it?
As far as reading goes, I had to restart The Owl Service. I have to say that the book had me a bit confused and then I put it away to read some other books so now that I finally went back to it I thought it’d be best to restart it. I think it was the smart thing to do. Hopefully I will finish it this weekend.
So is anyone going shopping tomorrow or are you all avoiding the malls? I am going to do the majority of my Christmas shopping on Etsy or at the bookstores so I’m not going to the malls. My plans for tomorrow don’t involve major shopping, they do involve going to the bookstore though because well it’s Friday!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
I have to go shopping tomorrow even though I would rather not. 🙁 I am going to try a couple of stores before I head to the mall, hoping I find what I need elsewhere so it won’t be necessary to go at all. 🙂 I’m not getting up early just to get to the early sales though. I’ll get there when I get there.
My next door neighbour came round for tea and comfort last Sunday having just been to visit her sister-in-law who had given her the family Christmas presents to bring home. “I haven’t even thought about wrapping mine,” she moaned. I didn’t feel strong enough to tell her I hadn’t even thought about buying mine!
I’m staying far, far away from the malls! Shudder.
No shopping. Shocked to see that JC Penney was open at 4 a.m. And Sears at 5 a.m. and Radio Shack at 6 a.m. I guess if I got up at 3, I could’ve gotten everything taken care of before 7 a.m. and come home and gone back to bed! 🙂
We avoid the malls! I’m lucky in that we have our employee discount sale (40% off!) a week from tomorrow. I hope to get all my Christmas shopping done with a one-stop-shopping trip after work on Friday.
I was supposed to have my car looked at (day lights and turn signal don’t work on one side), but only two technicians showed up by 9:30 a.m. and there were 10 people ahead of me. So, I decided to reschedule and my parents and I went to buy some plants at a local garden store, looked for towel racks (but didn’t find any) and had a nice lunch at a small, family owned Mexican restaurant.
I plan to read on Saturday and knit. If it rains, I won’t go out, because the streets will flood.
I did go out for just a couple of hours (at 6 am). I’ve decided that the poorer I get the earlier I have to get up for the bargains! I love Etsy, by the way. When I have more money to spend, that’s probably where it will go!! Cute purses!
Like Karen above, I was shocked to hear J.C. Penney was opening at 4am. I completely avoid the malls this weekend. And I feel sorry for the store employees who have to go to work at what, 3am, the day after Thanksgiving? I hope they get paid well for that!
I’m all caught up with errands and people who wish to meet me before the trip so I’ve hardly read 50 pages since Thanksgiving. I spend to do a read-a-thon on Sunday, no exception! 🙂
Literary Feline – How was the shopping? Did you get any good deals?
Ann Darnton – I never buy Christmas gifts until oh the second week of December. If I buy stuff ahead of time it always ends up being mine! ha,ha.
Dorothy W. – I stayed far away too!
Karen Olson – I also heard of stores staying open all weekend – like no closing at all! How crazy is that? Not for me.
Les in NE – Oooh that would be great. Hmm, Maybe I should get a part time job at B&N 🙂
Isabel – Did you guys get rain? It’s been a yucky day today. Cold & rainy. Just wanted to stay indoors but we actually went out to the movies. It was fun though so I won’t complain.Ha,ha.
Stephanie – I’m addicted to Etsy. I’ve bought lots of jewelry and purses. Great stuff. Plus I like to support indie artists/crafters.
Gentle Reader – I know, those poor employees right? I did go to Borders and B&N but didn’t go to any other stores.
Matt – I like your sunday plans! I think I may do that myself.
I am hoping to do some of my shopping online and then there are gift cards…I had to skim a chapter or two when I picked Owl Service back up. You do really have to pay attention, don’t you. I had better work on it seriously now or I won’t be ready to discuss it later this week.
I avoided Black Friday shopping like the plague. I finally ventured out to Books-a-Million on Sunday to get a brand-spankin-new copy of Great Expectations for the Year of Reading Dangerously. Woohoo! Oh, and I got a really pretty reusable shopping bag. The clerk who checked me out was going to put it in a plastic bag. I said, “Nuh-no!”
We did a little shopping in Austin but it was mainly at the independent boutiques although we did make a stop at Book People! I really need to get started on A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian. Hopefully this week. I think I will also be doing a lot of shopping online and Etsy will be top on my list!
No shopping for me. Glad I’m not the only one who found Owl Service to be confusing!
I hope you enjoyed your weekend!
I avoided the malls altogether. I’m claustrophobic. LOL
That I won’t be here for the holidays make shopping easier for me. I take advantage of the online bargains and have the gifts directly shipped to my friends.
Danielle – Yep, I think most of my shopping this year will be online. I just can’t deal with crowds!
Andi – Good for you! We did go to the bookstores and those weren’t bad. Too funny about your bag purchase. I always carry a backpack or some other big bag to the bookstore for purchases. I am trying to do my bit on saving the world from more plastic 🙂
Christine – You’ll have to tell me about your finds! Did you get anything at Book People? I’ve already shopped on Etsy today 🙂
Stefanie – I think I need to re-read the end of The Owl Service. Unfortunately it really wasn’t my cup of tea.
LK – I did! Got to see lots of movies and read.
Matt – Good! I can’t stand crowded malls either. Plus, it always seems like everyone douses in perfume and then my allergies go nuts.
