Aside from the love stories I’ve also been had a couple of mysteries in my reading mix. I discovered a new Swedish crime fiction detective, Erik Winter, in Ake Edwardson’s Sun and Shadow. I thought the book was a bit slow, the mystery is drawn out but I really like the fact that I felt like I was watching a movie while reading the book. I got a good sense of place from it. I believe there are about four more books in the series so I hope to check another out one of these days.
My other mystery introduced me to an archeologist living in a remote area in England, Ruth Galloway, from The Crossing Places by Elly Griffiths. I started off really liking Ruth a lot because I thought she was a bit quirky. By the end of the novel though I had one major problem but I won’t go into it because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. Despite that I really would like to continue with this series. I think there’s a lot of potential in it and given that I read the book in almost a day I think you could say I liked it.
Currently I’m reading Sister by Rosamund Lupton. As I’m reading this one for my mystery book group I sort of went in expecting a more traditional mystery so I’ve kind of had to change my expectations on the book. I am liking it and I plan on finishing it this weekend.
So that’s a bit of what I’ve been reading lately. I still have to tell you about all the new books that have arrived this month. I’ve had a bit of a bounty. Yay.
A new Scandinavian author! I’ll have to look for Ake Edwardson and give him a try.
I’m having something of a mystery reading slump this year–maybe I need to pick up a cozy mystery. Too bad about the Griffith’s book–I have only read the first but I do want to read the other novels, too. I have Sister in my pile–hope it is good!
Oh, I can’t wait to see what your “bounty” consists of!
I have heard good things about Sister so look forward to hearing your final thoughts on it.
