I’ve been a bit behind on sharing about my current reads so wanted to share with you what I’ve been currently reading:
The Pleasing Hour by Lily King. I started this one for Paris in July as it’s about a young woman who travels to France to live as an au pair. I can’t say I’m loving this one mainly because I find the main character hard to relate to. She’s carrying around guilt and sadness and I’m waiting to see what’s contributed to this. So we’ll see.
Elizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey. This is about an elderly woman, Maud, whose memory is not what it used to be and she’s trying to find her friend, Elizabeth. Meanwhile a lot of her memories that she still does have revolve around the disappearance of her sister many years ago. It’s frightening to see how she’s still living alone but at the same time, I want her to have her independence. I love how little things she discovers either notes in her pocket or items in her house will trigger memories for her and slowly the story is unfolding.
The Whisper Man by Alex North. Tom Kennedy is looking for a fresh start for him and his son, Jake, after the death of his wife. Unfortunately their new house/town holds a dark past and soon the anticipation turns to frightening moments for Tom. Why does Jake say that someone is whispering to him to his window? This is my audiobook and there have been some creepy moments for sure. I cannot wait to see what happens next.
The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. The action takes place in a retirement home and four of the residents enjoy solving cold cases but now that a local land developer has been murdered, they think it’s time to put their investigative skills to the test. Â My mystery book group which I haven’t been to in ages is reading this one. If I don’t make it to the meeting this month at least I can send in my rating and review. So far this is pretty enjoyable.
So those are my books but I’m anxious to add a title for #WITmonth. Let me know if you’ve read any of these. I hope you are reading some good books too!
All your books, except The Whisper Man, are either on my kindle or on my library list. I wish I could juggle multiple books like you, but two seems to be my limit… and then it’s usually one fiction and one nonfiction. Will look forward to your thoughts on them all.
Both The Whisper Man and The Thursday Murder Club are high on my TBR list.
I like Elizabeth is Missing a lot and The Whisper Man was creepy but good – on audio it was really Creepy. I have The Thursday Murder Club on audio but haven’t tried it yet and I thought I might have read The Pleasing Hour but, now I don’t see it so?? I have (3) books going right now and keep going back and forth. I need to stick to one print and one audio. Hope you love all of these.
I haven’t read any of these books, but I’m currently reading Writers & Lovers by Lilly King. It took me a while to get interested, but now I can’t put it down.
Have a good weekend, Iliana. It’s almost here!
The Thursday Murder Club is on my list. I don’t think I’d like The Whisper Man on audio–it might be easier on my nerves in print! 🙂
I’ve heard VERY good things about The Thursday Murder Club. I’ve been putting it off for ages, but maybe we’ll both read it around the same time!
All the books sound interesting to me! I enjoyed reading Elizabeth is Missing so I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts, Iliana.
I enjoyed Elizabeth is Missing too; it read quickly and kept me interested throughout. Hopefully you’ve been enjoying the lot of them!
