Are you ready for some thrills and chills? I was so excited when I saw that Readers Imbibing Peril (R.I.P. XVII) is back! Â I’m here for the spooky reads, the cozy atmosphere and of course hearing about what you are reading.
In case you don’t know, there are several perils you can participate in such as Peril of the Short Story where you would read some spooky shorts or Peril of the Screen and enjoy a thrilling film. I typically do try to watch a spooky film (around Halloween of course!).
As always, one of the best part of joining in a reading event or challenge, is coming up with a pile of potential reads. Here are some I’m considering:
Chapter and Curse by Elizabeth Penney. This happens to be the September selection for my mystery book group. A cozy mystery set in a bookstore. I’m already sold.
Dracul by Dacre Stoker. This is a prequel to Dracula so I think this could be the perfect choice. I did read Dracula several years ago for R.I.P. and absolutely loved it.
Silence for the Dead by Simone St. James. In a remote hospital for shell-shocked veterans in 1919, a young woman arrives pretending to be a nurse – and hiding her own secrets. But the ghosts that haunt the halls of Portis House haunt the mad and the sane alike.
The Tenth Girl by Sara Faring. At the very southern tip of South America looms an isolated finishing school. Legend has it that the land will curse those who settle there.
I want to read all of these but of course I wouldn’t be surprised if I switch around books to fit my mood.
I would love to hear if you are joining and if you already have a list of planned reads. Don’t forget to tag @PerilReaders in your Instagram or other social media posts.
Have fun with this challenge. I see Simone St James on your list. I keep meaning to read more after loving The Sun Down Motel – did you read that one? Have fun Iliana.
Can’t wait to hear what you think of Dracul! Happy reading this month. 😀
Diane – Thank you, I hope you do too! I read her book The Haunting of Maddy Clarke last year and it was wonderful. So spooky and atmospheric. Really looking forward to another of novels.
Lark – It sounds really good and how cool is it that it’s a descendant of Bram Stoker’s isn’t it?
Can’t believe it’s already time for R.I.P. reading challenge! I need to sort through my TBR immediately and pull out the few horror selections I might still have there. And yes, I am a huge fan of the (original) Dracula too, but is Dacre Stoker related to Bram Stoker? Off to check it out!
Yay for R.I.P. and great list, they all sound good. Happy spooky reading!
Lex @ Lexlingua – Yes, Dacre is the great grand-nephew of Bram! I really hope to get to that book. Can’t wait to see what you’ll be reading!
Bookworm – Isn’t R.I.P. a great challenge? Love preparing a spooky book list.
Dracul was a great read so I hope you’ll enjoy it, Iliana. Have fun with the reading challenge! 🙂
I think I need to try Simone St. James ! She’s popular these days. I also like Shirley Jackson stories during October.
