Are you ready for Poem In Your Pocket Day? I am.
In case you are wondering what poem I’ll be reading, here’s an excerpt:
The month of May, the merry month of May,
So long awaited, and so quickly past.
The winter’s over, and it’s time to play.
I saw a hundred shades of green today
And everything that Man made was outclassed.
The month of May, the merry month of May….
So carpe diem, gather buds, make hay.
The world is glorious. Compare, contrast
December with the merry month of May.
Now is the time, not is the time to play.
Excerpt from The Month of May by Wendy Cope.
I needed a feel good poem today and this one makes me think of good days ahead. Tell me what poem you’d carry in your pocket.

I love Wendy Cope–good choice! I usually go with Wordsworth, myself. We can’t play Poem in Your Pocket because standardized, high-stakes testing takes place on that day, but we will be doing it two weeks from today.
Nice choice! I think I might go with something about nature with an expansive feel to it perhaps something by Emily Dickinson or Walt Whitman.
I totally forgot that April 14th was “Poem in my Pocket” day until yesterday! Sigh. =( Thanks for sharing the Cope poem with us. I love her poem “Orange”.
I absolutely adore the idea of a hundred shades of green. Love this time of year!!
Great choice, Iliana!
Very nice! I like ‘The world is glorious’ Great choice. The poem I’d carry in my pocket would be ‘If you were coming in the fall’ by Emily Dickinson.
Very cute paper and it does fit handily in your pocket. Love the excerpt, too!
