SRC Update

Only a couple of more weeks until the end of the Summer Reading Challenge and I just couldn’t hold out any longer. I got an email notice from the library that my request for Murder in Little Italy had come in. I thought about cancelling it but I love the Gaslight mystery series and I couldn’t resist the pull of the book on hold.

I read the book in two sittings. The eighth book in the series continues with the story of midwife Sarah Brandt in turn of the century New York. When she goes to check on a newly delivered babe she doesn’t expect to find herself in the middle of a murder investigation. It was a great read and now I just want to know when will the next book be published?

Anyway other than that slip, my SRC has been a success – 20 books read so far! I owe that large number mainly to my three week vacation. Oh, the number of books you can get through when you don’t have to work. Ha,ha…

On The Screen

We had a great time at the Dallas Video Festival. We only made it for Saturday’s showings but we saw some great stuff. Like Art on the Streets, which is a documentary about how one community is helping the homeless in a very different way. Another one that was quite moving was Letters from the Other Side. If you get a chance to see any of these I highly recommend them.

Keeping with a movie theme, I’ve been tagged by Jordan on a movie meme. Back to book talk tomorrow.

The first movie you remember seeing on the big screen: El Bolero de Raquel starring Cantinflas

Movie from which you can quote multiple lines in your sleep: I’m terrible at this.

Director (dead or alive) with whom you’d most like to have dinner: Pedro Aldomovar

Movie that should have won an Oscar but didn’t: Il Postino. Love poetry, Neruda and Italy. What’s not to love?

Movie that didn’t disappoint despite being an adaptation from a book: House of Sand and Fog

Movie you were dragged to by someone else, expecting to hate but loved: Freaky Friday

Movie that still scares the crap out of you no matter how many times you see it: The Exorcist. Not sure if this really counts as I’ve never seen the complete version but still I think it’s freaking scary.

Movie that still makes you bawl no matter how many times you see it: Life is Beautiful

Movie that still has you rolling around on the floor with laughter no matter how many times you see it: Office Space.
