B&N Finds

I went back to Barnes & Noble this weekend because when I was there for book club last week I saw a new edition of the Bella Grace Field Guide. These magazines don’t tend to last very long on the stand and I wanted to see if it was something I wanted to have so I had to go back.

Of course I also found out that the B&N Classics were 50% off and couldn’t resist adding two titles to my library. I got O Pioneers! by Willa Cather and A Room with a View by E.M. Forster. I wanted a few others but actually wasn’t sure if I already had them on my shelves so I decided to not go overboard.

The last book was The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. I read this when I was a teen and I owned a copy but it was unfortunately one of my childhood books that got damaged in an apartment flooding when I was in college. I thought it was time to get a copy for my shelves. I think being that I was in Amsterdam recently, Anne Frank’s story has been on my mind so I want to re-read it.

I did a bit of crafting and organizing so on the whole a very nice weekend. Now to catch up on some reading before it’s time to get the work week started. Did you add any new books to your shelves this weekend?

Mysteries

I went to my book group night on Tuesday and we discussed Auntie Poldi and the Sicilian Lions by Mario Giordano. I think it was a bit of a mixed bag for the group. Some didn’t care for the main character at all while others thought she was a great character. I wanted to like this one a lot more than I did but sometimes that happens right? Our next book to discuss will be The Awkward Squad by Sophie Henaff

While I was hanging around the bookstore browsing before our discussion I found a few other books either on the shelf or mentioned in magazines that were mysteries I wanted to check out. So here they are:

The Ghost Manuscript by Kris Frieswick. Rare books, a tomb and a secret that could rewrite the history of Western civilization. What’s not to love!

The Conviction of Cora Burns by Carolyn Kirby. A debut novel that delves into Victorian London’s dark underbelly and the question of where we first learn violence: from our scars or from our hearts.

One Small Sacrifice by Hilary Davidson. An apparent suicide. A mysterious disappearance. Did one man get away with murder—twice?

Two Girls Down by Louisa Luna. When two young sisters disappear from a strip mall parking lot in a small Pennsylvania town, their devastated mother hires an enigmatic bounty hunter, Alice Vega, to help find the girls.

Let me know if you’ve read any of these or if you’re also got these on your wishlist. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and more book talk soon!

This & That

I can’t believe the weekend is almost over. I felt very productive this weekend although there are a bunch of other things I didn’t get to but I guess they’ll have to wait until next weekend. Aside from the chores and errands, I did a bit of crafting.

I usually have several ongoing projects and sometimes it takes me a while to finish them so I finally finished two this weekend. A made a couple of junk journal notebooks and although mine don’t have a lot of embellishments like some I’ve seen, I love just the selecting of the papers that go in them. I try to use some blank paper so there is space for writing but a lot of the papers I use for these are vintage, book pages, magazine pages, etc. More on those to come.

Another project I worked on a bit was my art journal. I did some collaging and journaling. I am curious if I’ll be able to complete another journal this year.

On the book front, I’m still trying to finish Autie Poldi and the Sicilian Lions. Even though I’m more than half way I’m not quite sure what to make of it. Sometimes it seems over the top but then I start to feel a bit bad for Auntie Poldi. Anyway, let’s see what my group thinks about the book.

What about you, what were you up to this weekend?
