Quick Update

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Despite not blogging last week and thinking I was going to have a bit more time to catch up on reading, etc. my work was crazy last week and I even had to do a bit of work this weekend. So not a lot of reading got done although I did finish I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sanchez. Really loved this one.

The rest of the weekend I was had calls with friends and family so that was nice and of course the never-ending work on my studio organization. I think I’m doomed to work in the middle of a sea of papers!

Now the good thing is that I did do a bit of book shopping in honor of my bloggiversary but I’m still waiting on the books to arrive so I’ll tell you about those once they are here. So that’s the news around here. Let me know what I’ve missed and if you read any good books this weekend.

Bloggiversary

Hi Friends,

Can you believe it, I’m here celebrating 16 years of bookish talk. When I first began this blog I sort of thought I’d do this for a while never imagining I’d still be writing blog posts about book news, wishlist, favorites, etc. years later.

Our book community has definitely changed but I’m grateful that so many of those blog friends who I’ve been following all this time are still in it. I feel like I don’t venture to read new blogs as much as I used to but I blame that on not enough time.

Now typically on my bloggiversary, I would be going off to the bookstore for a coffee, a treat and some book shopping but this year no bookstore visit. How I miss bookstores. Luckily there is Bookshop.org so I can do a bit of shopping and support some indie bookstores while I’m at it.

As always I thank you for spending your time visiting with me. I’m going to take the rest of the week off from the blog to hopefully catch up on some reading. And, like I said, book buying. Have a wonderful week!

Hugs,
iliana

Weekend Update

I hope you all had a very nice weekend. I had to do a bit of work over the weekend but we relaxed watching The Five and more of House Hunters International. We imagine living in other countries and discovering new places and food. Can you tell I’m totally missing our annual travels? Right now we would be counting down the days but I guess we’ll just have to wait until next year.

On the book front, I finished We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver. You guys have to read this! Even though you know what is going to happen it is still disturbing. I didn’t quite know what I wanted to read after but I made the right choice by starting I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika Sanchez, which I recently purchased. So far, this is turning out to be a winner.

Also, while scrolling Instagram I heard about #BlackoutBestsellerlist. Amistad Books, the oldest publisher dedicated to publishing multicultural voices, is encouraging readers to purchase two books by black writers during the week of Sunday, June 14 through Saturday, June 20th. The goal is to Blackout bestseller lists with Black voices. If possible, also don’t forget to support Black-owned bookstores. I already placed an order with Black Pearl Books.

Finally, what are some summer reading events you’re participating in this summer? I know Women in Translation (WIT) is in August but are there other read-a-longs or events you are looking forward to? Let me know and maybe I’ll join in too. Alright so that’s it for now. Hope you all have a great start of the week!
