It’s time! Carl V. has just announced the annual Once Upon A Time challenge, now in its fifth year. I know I said that this year I wasn’t going to participate in any challenges but you did read the fine print in my post right – I’m making an exception for Carl’s challenges as they are the first ones I ever participated in.
There are a various quests but I’m going with The Journey which means it’s an intention to read a book, in any of the categories. You can read more but that’s up to you. Kailana and I have talked about reading Among Others by Jo Walton, and I do have quite a few other books that would be great for the challenge.
Because I know a lot of you enjoy book lists as much as I do, I’ll share with you some of the other books that I have. Let me know if you’ve read some of these.
- Doomsday Book by Connie Willis
- The Magician’s by Lev Grossman
- The Lost Gate by Orson Scott Card
- The Bird of the River by Kage Baker
- Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
I am sure I have more but those are some of the ones that I can clearly see among the books on my shelves. So what about you, are you joining? You know you want to!
This is the first time I’m participating in Carl’s OUAT Challenge, though I’m not new to his R.I.P Challenges. 🙂 I know it’d be lots of fun; plus Carl’s a great host!
I sincerely mean it when I say that I am honored that you are making an exception for the Once Upon a Time Challenge. It really does mean a great deal to me and I feel privileged to have you. Thanks so much! I hope you and Kailana read Among Others, it would be great to read your buddy review of it.
Doomsday Book is just brilliant – I hope you get to that one!
How fabulous. I wondered when this would begin. I thought perhaps Carl wasn’t doing it this year.
Melody – Really? For some reason I thought you had participated before! Wow, well, you are in for a fun time. Glad to see you are joining too 🙂
Carl V. – Well, thanks to you I started reading in this genre! I love that I’ve discovered new authors and new “worlds”. Thank you so much for hosting Carl. I know we all appreciate you putting this together!
Nymeth – I really want to too 🙂
vivienne – I think we’d all pressure him into it anyway 😉 Isn’t it fun. Looking forward to seeing your list.
That Carl! I make that vow too but you can bet your booty I will be participating in RIP. I have Doomsday on order from the library (been on order for like three months) but it will be mine. I am waiting patiently, because everyone says it is phenomenal.
So glad you have joined up! I don’t join a lot of challenges, but ALWAYS make the exception for OUaT & RIP because Carl is such an excellent challenge host (and I’ve discovered some awesome books through his challenges). Oh, and I read The Magician’s and really enjoyed it!
I can’t believe it’s already that time again! I’ll be joining too, just haven’t done my post yet!
ohhh Among Others is a really good read!!! do it, do it! lol
I am looking forward to reading Among Others! I expect to receive it either today or tomorrow. 🙂
Doomsday Book is most excellent. I will not be joining the challenge this year but perhaps next year when I won’t have to worry about homework. I like that idea 🙂
I’m so ready for this one! Although The Doomsday Book has been on my list forever, maybe now I’ll get to it.
I’m not joining but will be watching from the sidelines and enjoying all of the book suggestions I gain from this challenge. It is one of my favorites for adding new books to my list. Have fun!
I haven’t read any of those but they look interesting. Good luck!
I’m definitely joining this challenge! Glad to hear you’re doing the same! 🙂
I plan on joining in, too. I have a stack of books to look at over the weekend. I think I will only read one but can’t decide whether to keep it short or go for broke and pick a doorstopper. I shouldn’t do this, but the temptation is too great.
The Doomsday Book is terrific. I hope you’ll get around to reading it. I’m not joining challenges, this year (except possibly the RIP) but I’m looking forward to the reviews that will come of this one!
*yay* I just posted about this too. I’ve heard good things about Shiver. Happy reading.
Ack! I still need to make my list. Must get on that!
