Today’s mail brought me a few goodies that are keeping me away from my books tonight. I got the March/April edition of Bookmarks Magazine. After a quick look through I’ve already added The Bastard of Istanbul by Elif Shafak, The Crimson Portrait by Jody Shields and Arlington Park by Rachel Cusk to my list.
I also received the latest New York Review of Books and I recommend it to any Haruki Murakami fans for this article alone. Of course the detail I zoom into is that apparently Murakami so captivates a global readership that in Taipei you can find a café named after one of his novels and a bar in Moscow offers a cannabis-laced drink in his honor.
Finally my latest find is CROQ Zine. For any of you crafters out there this is one not to miss. Issue 8 has articles on charity crafting, a pattern for a cute wristlet and some candy recipes – yum.
So tell me, are you reading anything else besides a good book?
I hope I have another good mail day tomorrow because I’m waiting on a box of books!
There’s nothing much better than getting a new book in the mail. I ordered all my text books in college online and now that I’m overseas Amazon has become my new best friend.
Reading anything besides a good book, hmm? Well blogs of course!
I’m still waiting on my copy of Bookmarks – I’ll be watching out for those titles.
Nik – Blogs indeed! So have you ordered anything new lately?
Lesley – Hope you get yours soon. Good articles on Herman Hesse and Wallace Stegner too.
I need to catch up on my magazines this week as well — they are piling up (headaches and cold be gone!)….
I liked your poetry quiz and I had the same result as you…
Thanks for the link as well on Etsy. That is exactly what I am looking at working on. I just need to get brave and get out that soldering iron!
Ok, when do you sleep?
Christine – Don’t you hate it when they pile up? 🙂 Feel better girl!
Isabel – Well, that’s why I’m grumpy in the mornings. I go to bed way too late. ha,ha..
Oh, those are the books I want to read, too. I have that issue of NYRB — must check out the article, thanks.
Speaking of receiving books…I LOVE BOOKMOOCH! Waiting on a copy of Getting Stoned with Savages (J. Maarten Troost) as we speak.
LK – Enjoy NYRB!
Andi – You are hooked aren’t you? 🙂
Thank you for the article link. As a Murakami maniac, I’d love to check out that cafe. What literary devotion!
Literary Acquisitionist – A Murakami maniac? I love it! I’ve only read two of his books and must read more. Wouldn’t it be cool to go see those places?
OMG you’re not reading books? Where have you been? LOL 🙂
Thanks for the link to article about Haruki Murakami. I gotta hit the bookstore with the list I made up last night, mainly drawing from Danielle’s current readings.
I have Crimson Portrait on my TBR pile–I am looking forward to reading it! You make me want to subscribe to NYRB!
Matt – I know, call the book police 🙂 Have fun at the bookstore. I can’t wait to hear what you got.
Danielle – NYRB is good, even the personals are a hoot!
