I hope you all had a great start to the New Year. We celebrated with our 12 grapes at midnight and hugs. Of course I always have to read a little bit before going to sleep so I thought a New Year, calls for a new book even if I’m currently between several books.
I’m always talking about reading more classics so why not start the year off with one. My choice was Mansfield Park by Jane Austen. I have not gotten very far into the story and this is the one Austen book I know the least about but already I’m rooting for good things to happen to poor, little Fanny Price.
I’ll keep you posted on how my reading of this one goes but how about you, have you read this one? Where does it rank on your list of favorite Austen books?
Other than reading, I also enjoyed being outdoors for a bit when we went for a bike ride (with a pit stop at the coffee shop of course). Love days like this.
Now it’s back to reading!
I always say I should read more classics, too! I have only read the one Austen. It’s terrible!
I’ve only read two Austen books but I have all of them. I don’t know why I don’t sit down and read them all…she is such a delight. I think my issue is that I get distracted with all the new books that come out. I can’t wait to hear what you think!
Happy New Year Iliana! I haven’t read Mansfield Park (own it) but I almost picked up Sense and Sensibility a few weeks ago. I hope you enjoy the read!!
Sounds like a nice celebration. Mansfield Park is not my favorite Austen novel. The first time I read it I put it at the bottom of Austen, but when I reread it a few years ago I moved it up a notch. I do hope you enjoy it. Fanny is a divisive kind of character so I look forward to hearing what you think of it!
Austen is always a good idea! Happy new year!
Kailana – It’s taken me quite a while to work through some of Austen’s book. I am halfway there. I’m still have to read Sense & Sensibility and Pride & Prejudice.
Sandy – Yes, new books are a distraction! I should say limit my book purchases but we know that’s not gonna happen! ha.
Trish – I was sort of tempted to start S&S too but again because this is the one I didn’t know anything about I thought why not! Happy reading!
Stefanie – If I remember correctly your favorite is Persuasion? So far that is my favorite. Glad to hear this one moved up on your list. Which one is your least favorite then?
Andi@Estella’s Revenge – That is true isn’t it! Happy reading!
Happy New Year Iliana! My former SIL also celebrates by having grapes at midnight–I hope your wish comes true! 🙂 I have started a few new books (why can I never stop at just one??), so I can totally understand that desire for something new for 2014. I have yet to read Mansfield Park–enjoy–I am hoping to read more classics this year, too.
I read Mansfield Park, and I confess it’s my least favorite. However, Fanny’s aunt is delightfully slothful, Mrs. Norris is horrid, and the Crawfords are excellent fun to read. Jane Austen’s own mother described Fanny herself as “insipid.” I did gain an appreciation for the book after reading An Austen Education by William Deresiewicz. He makes a convincing case for the value of that book. My favorites are Persuasion and Pride and Prejudice with Sense and Sensibility close on their heels.
Happy New Year! I’ve yet to read Mansfield Park. Persuasion and P&P are my favs. I do want to pick up Sense and Sensibility this year. Happy reading 🙂
I haven’t yet read this Austen book, although I would like to. You’ve put me in the mood to add Austen to my list of authors to re-visit this year. I’ve loved everything of hers I’ve read so far.
I enjoyed Mansfield Park, but it’s pretty low on my Austen list. Look forward to reading your thoughts!
Fun one – (actually only on my list, have yet to read) – I love choosing the first new book of the year. Hope you love it.
Danielle – Thank you! I know it’s so hard to not start new books right? Right now I have three going on but I really want to start a new one. I’m in the mood for something light and my current reads aren’t meeting that criteria. Let’s see what I find!
Dana Huff – That Mrs. Norris is something else isn’t she? I get the feeling she’s not going to get any better as I continue to read. Persuasion is so far my favorite but I’ve yet to read S&S and P&P – Really looking forward to those!
Bookworm – I hope you’ll enjoy S&S. Is that a new read for you or a re-read?
Literary Feline – Oh I hope you pick up one and of course you’ll have to tell us which one you choose!
Tiffany – I’m beginning to think MP is probably at the bottom of everyone’s list. So far I’m enjoying it but I’m not very far into the story.
Care – It is isn’t it? It’s like you want to make sure you select a good one to start your reading year off right!
