I’m back with another post about some new releases for the month. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the review copies.
The Harpy by Megan Hunter. AÂ dark, staggering fairy tale, at once mythical and otherworldly and fiercely contemporary. It is a novel of love, marriage and its failures, of power, control and revenge, of metamorphosis and renewal.
The Pretenders by Agatha Zaza. Over the course of one day, these couples must own up to the secrets they’ve been hiding from one another and the lies they’ve been telling themselves. And face the devastating consequences.
Murder in Old Bombay by Nev March. In 1892, Bombay is the center of British India. Nearby, Captain Jim Agnihotri lies in Poona military hospital recovering from a skirmish on the wild northern frontier, with little to do but re-read the tales of his idol, Sherlock Holmes, and browse the daily papers. The case that catches Captain Jim’s attention is being called the crime of the century: Two women fell from the busy university’s clock tower in broad daylight.
After All I’ve Done by Mina Hardy. Five months ago, an accident left Diana Sparrow badly injured and missing a few months of her memory. As if that’s not enough, she’s started having recurring nightmares about the night of the accident.
The Star-Crossed Sisters of Tuscany by Lori Nelson Spielman. A trio of second-born daughters sets out on a whirlwind journey through the lush Italian countryside to break the family curse that says they’ll never find love.
The Museum of Forgotten Memories by Anstey Harris. Four years after her husband Richard’s death, Cate Morris is let go from her teaching job and unable to pay rent on the London flat she shares with her son, Leo. With nowhere else to turn, they pack up and venture to Richard’s ancestral Victorian museum in the small town of Crouch-on-Sea.
I have to say all these are all calling my attention but given that I already have several books on my nightstand then I’ll save them a bit longer. Which one would you pick up first?
These all sound so good, Iliana. I have my eye on Murder in Old Bombay. I love mysteries set in other countries although I haven’t been reading them very often as of late. But then, my reading is way down unless you count middle grade books I read with my daughter. The Star-Crossed Sisters is another one I am really tempted by. I hope you enjoy all of these when you read them!
I think The Museum of Forgotten Memories intrigues me the most out of this list; but they all sound good. 🙂
All these books sound so good and honestly, I’ve a hard time choosing just one to start with. Still, I hope you’ll enjoy them all and I look forward to your thoughts of them. 🙂
I just read a little about Murder in Old Bombay on a review site, and it certainly caught my interest. All of these titles sound so interesting–I don’t know which I would choose first!
I’ve seen lots of buzz about The Harpy, not enough to bite, but I am very curious 🙂
Some very good releases to look forward to! I love the sound of The Pretenders and Murder in Old Bombay. I’ll have to look for them.
Murder in Old Bombay would be one I’d love to read, but I must not. I am still trying to clear out, give away our books in our house in Atlanta, GA. or move them to my new house in Nashville. It is a task because there are so many, mine and my late husband. I must have cleared out a couple thousands but there are still a good 6000 there. A couple of years ago I started reading the mysteries written by Barbara Cleverly that take place in Simla, India. I read twelve of them in succession. But I’ll keep the name of Murder in Old Bombay as my library may have it, whenever they reopen… It is so difficult to give books away.
