On my drive to work this morning I caught part of Nancy Pearl’s book feature on NPR. I love it when she’s on NPR and wish she was on more often. She’s always so excited about the books she recommends and it’s great that she also features books that perhaps aren’t so well known. For example, have you heard of Dingley Falls by Michael Malone? I’d never heard of it but I want to read it now.
Anyway that was a good way to start my morning and my drive back home was also a bookish one as I had to stop at the library to pick up some holds. I really should have cancelled these because I just don’t see myself reading them before they are due back. I want to but I’ve got a lot of others I want to get through first, still you never know.
My holds were these:
- On Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan
- Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
- Flying Too High by Kerry Greenwood
Off to catch up on my current books.
Yeah, most people have too many books to read than they actual have time for, huh… such is life. 🙂
Nancy is da bomb! 😉
I totally agree with Kialana…I’m guilty of that crime, if you can call it a crime. Haha! I’m eager to see what you think of Eat, Pray, Love, Iliana…I keep bumping into that book but it’s not on my list of ‘must-gets’ – yet.
I love her. I just read a book she loved and it was so good. “The Name of the Wind”.
I cannot put any more books on hold for awhile!
I’ve been trying to bag Eat, Pray, Love on BookMooch for awhile now. Never quite quick enough though! 🙁
I love Pearl’s radio segments too. And I just renewed a library book I’m not sure I’ll get around to!
Kailana – Indeed! I need to win the lottery so I can stay home and read all of these books 🙂
Maggie – I totally agree!
Kisane – I’ve had that book on my TBR list for a long time now. I do want to get to it but we’ll see.
Nancy – Ok, I’m going to have to add that book to the TBR list. She is so awesome isn’t she. I think I need to ban myself from the library again 🙂
Heather – Oh me too. I have given up hope that I’ll ever be able to mooch it though.
Dorothy W. – The worst is when you’ve renewed the book the maxium number of times allowed (in my library it’s usually 3 unless it’s on hold) and you still don’t get to it. Sigh.
Anything to stay out of the heat is good.
Eat, Pray, Love keeps calling to me every time I go to Target and end up perusing the books. For some reason it’s always right there in my face dancing around at Target. And now I have a gift card. I see a book in my future!
Enjoy your goodies!
On Chesil Beach won’t take you long, it’s really short! And I’d love to hear what you think. But it’s so hard to get to library books in a timely fashion, I have that problem, too 🙂
Michael Malone is a great writer, and everything he’s written is wonderful. I actually interviewed him for a small newspaper I worked for in the 1980s when his book HANDLING SIN came out, and he’s amazingly witty and fun to talk to. He was head writer for ONE LIFE TO LIVE for some time. Highly recommend everything he’s written.
Michael Malone is a new author to me. What else is sad is I’ve Nancy Pearl.
Like Andi, Eat, Pray and Love calls out to me every single time I see it at work. I’m fairly certain I’ll enjoy, but my preexisting stacks convince me to hold off just a bit longer. At least I’ll get my 30% discount no matter when I decide to buy it. 🙂
I’m thinking you can zip through Eat, Pray, Love…it seems like one of those kinds of books.
Nice to have choices, though, sometimes.
oh, I LOVE Eat, Pray, Love. It was my favorite book from 2006.
Isabel – No kidding! It was a warm and toasty 104 today – gah!
Andi – Spend that gift card girl 🙂
Gentle Reader – My library is generous and gives me 3 weeks but somehow that’s still not enough. That’s why I end up buying so many books 😉
Karen Olson – Oh wow, how neat! And, thank you for the info on his other book. I will definitely have to add his name to my TBR list!
Booklogged – Isn’t Nancy Pearl the best. I found out about Barbara Pym through her and loved the book I read so I trust Nancy 🙂
les in NE – Ha,ha.. Those Target aisles are dangerous. Lucky you to have that 30% discount handy. I think I need to go work at B&N.
LK – I just know it’s one of those books I will like too. I have a feeling. Maybe I’ll have to return it “late” -shh, don’t tell.
Lisa – Ok, that’s it, I need to read this book!
New books are always tempting no matter how high those stacks are!
I am trying to decide what to bring on our trip!
Christine – I haven’t even started thinking about which books to take on vacation this year but I told Michael to leave room in his suitcase for my books – ha,ha…
