Recently I got a nice bundle of review copies. I just wish I could read all of these right now but I’m deep into five books right now so I’ve got to finish some of those before I start these but don’t these sound good?
- The Murderer’s Daughters by Randy Susan Meyers. It’s the story of two sisters and their journey to overcome family violence. This sounds like it’ll be sad but nevertheless a gripping read.
- The Heights by Peter Hedges. Tim and Kate have a great, ordinary love. Settled in their crowded apartment amid lavish brownstones of Brooklyn Heights, they raise their sons never wondering if their marriage is anything but solid and true. But their neat and tidy world is about to be tested by the arrival of a wealthy, beautiful and impulsive new neighbor. Ooh drama!
- Exit the Actress by Priya Parmar. A vivid imagining of the Restoration London of Charles II with Nell Gwyn as a powerful and engaging heroine set in the busy world of the theater. Looks like a fun historical novel.
- The Mistress of Nothing by Kate Pullinger. Based on the real lives of famed traveler Lady Duff Gordon and her maid, the novel takes readers on a journey from the high society of Victorian England to the uncharted far reaches of Egypt’s Nile Valley. I really like the premise of this one!
As I said, all of these are intriguing to me and I would love to start them now but they’ll have to wait just a bit longer. Have you read any of these? How about you, got any new review copies that you are excited about?

I think The Mistress of Nothing sounds intriguing. I’ve seen a couple of good reviews for it – that’s the one that catches my eye!
I liked The Murderer’s Daughters a lot, but The Heights — not so much. Hope u enjoy your new books.
I hope to read Exit The Actress soon. I have followed Priya’s blog for a while now.
The Mistress of Nothing sounds interesting. I can’t place where I have heard the name Lady Duff Gordon, but I know that I know of it. It’ll come to me.
Exit the Actress sounds so good. Nell Gwynne is just kind of fabulous and that period of history is my fav.
Hope you enjoy Mistress of Nothing. I thought it was a good read.
They sound great! Especially The Heights.
I haven’t read any of these. Eager to hear your opinion. Shoot, hard to type with a cat walking across the keyboard!
I read The Mistress of Nothing last year and really enjoyed it. You should give it a try soon!
They all sound good, but The Mistress of Nothing does in particular. I hope you enjoy them all!
Hey guys – so glad to hear some of you have read these and recommend them. Yay. I really would like to start one but I must finish a book for book group first. I’m so behind! I’ll keep you guys posted 🙂
I read the Pullinger last year and really liked it. Enjoy your new books!
I haven’t heard of the others, but they sound interesting; I read The Mistress of Nothing shortly after it won a national award in Canada. The language is straightforward, almost stark, which seems to suit the characters, who are suddenly transported to a place strange to them, where even everyday details seem to stand out in relief. I didn’t find it a riveting read in the traditional sense, but I found the relationships so compelling, especially as they grew more complicated. Hope it’s your cup of literary tea!
These all sound good to me. Enjoy your ARCs!
The Heights and The Mistress of Nothing both caught my eye. I’m looking forward to your reviews!
