Tonight was my Murder on Mondays book group and we discussed Murphy’s Law by Rhys Bowen (link takes you to my review). I think most of the group found the book enjoyable more so for the character development and period detail rather than the mystery itself. I like historical novels so I will probably read another in the series.
We also chose books for the upcoming months and we will be reading the following books: A Thousand Bones by P.J. Parrish, A Corpse in the Koryo by James church and Dope by Sara Gran.
I’ve got another book group tomorrow night and aside from looking forward to the discussion we also find out which books we’ll be reading next year. Can’t wait.

You have multiple book groups and I can’t even find one. Hmmphf. I need to inspire these North Carolinians somehow.
I’d like to hear what your group decides to read next year. My group is voting next week to decide our 2008 schedule.
I read DOPE, it got a lot of hype when it first came out. I think Megan Abbott’s books DIE A LITTLE, THE SONG IS YOU and QUEENPIN, which are similar in setting and time, are far superior.
Andi – Start your own book group! I love my two groups but it did take me a while to find them.
Tara – I’ll post the list 🙂
Karen Olson – I read Die A Little and thought it was fantastic. I need to read more by Megan Abbot for sure. I did read Come Closer by Gran which I thought was very well done but I’m a bit surprised my group picked Dope — it’s not really a typical mystery I think. We’ll see how it goes.
I am sorry to miss book group tonight but hope it’s great and look forward to seeing the finalized 2008 reading list.
That’s neat that you have two RL book clubs! I don’t think I’d know what to do at a RL meeting, lol. I’m so used to the blogosphere. 🙂
Seems like everybody is making reading plan for the new year. I can’t wait to begin the Russian challenge, and am considering a few others.
Have a good time at the book club! 🙂
Say HI to the Borders people for me.
I miss ya’ll.
But, I am happy that I have my own book group that is reading some of the same works that you are!
Christine – We missed you girl but hopefully you can come next month. We still don’t know which books will be read for which month.
Eva – Ha,ha… I know what you mean though.
Matt – That Russian challenge tempts me a bit too but I will probably sit that one out. I’ve already got a list of some other challenges I want to join. Gah, too many good ones! 🙂
Isabel – Still wish you were here to meet with us but at least you found a good group too!
I liked A Corpse in the Koryo. Boy, it is an eye-opening looks at a closed society; the political situation was pretty scary. I really liked Inspector O.
jenclair – I’m so glad to hear this! I wasn’t too keen on the book at first but now I’m looking forward to it.
