Thank you guys for the comments on my previous post. I think you have all talked me into giving Harry Potter a chance! I’m not promising that I’ll get to it any time soon but it’s now on my wish list. That really was fun to write up and I actually came up with a few other books I feel like everyone has read but me so I may have to do another post on that.
Anyway, tonight was my mystery book group night and this one was an extra special night because we got together for dinner and book swap. We do that twice a year and it’s nice to meet up first and chat about other things aside from just the current book we’ve read.
I typically pick up a lot more books but this time I held back a bit and ended up with four books.
- The Madonnas of Leningrad by Debra Dean.
- Thunderhead by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child
- Dialogues of the Dead by Reginald Hill
- Long Lost by Harlan Coben
Have you read these? Any thoughts?
After dinner we moved the discussion over to Barnes & Noble and talked about The Fire Engine That Disappeared. I have to say that after discussion I feel like I liked the book even more. I honestly think I would have enjoyed this one a lot more if I hadn’t read it just after the latest Stieg Larsson book which is also set in Sweden. Anyway, I’ll try to do a book review of that book soon.
Before I left Barnes & Noble I noticed that they have their B&N Classics on sale, buy two get the third free. I am definitely going back this week!
Alright, it’s been a long day and I’m tired. So I’m going to grab a new book for tonight and I’ll catch up with you guys tomorrow.
I love Harlen Coben but really didn’t like Long Lost. I would skip it or not rush to read it.
I am so weak when I see those buy two get third free. Like I need any more books. LOL
I really want to read The Madonnas of Leningrad!
Kathleen – I’ve never read any of his books… I think I’ll take your advice and when I finally get to them I’ll start with another. I think I have another one in the stacks.
Wisteria Leigh – I know, right? I have to say I do have a weakness for those B&N editions too. I like them and they are so affordable, especially when they have a sale.
Stephanie – I’ve had that one on my wishlist forever. I’m so glad I got that in the swap. That’s the one I was really most excited about.
Oh, I missed the Harry Potter discussion I guess. Just got back from vacation. Whatever was said, yes, HP is an absolute must. If you do audios, those are incredible…even better than the written word I believe. That series will forever be on my top 10 ever list.
I loved Harlan Coban’s Tell No One, but then I read another one, Hold Tight, and was underwhelmed. I have another one of his loaded on my iPod (don’t remember which one…maybe Long Lost?) but is way back in the Q after some heavy hitting butt kickers, like the latest Elizabeth George novel and The Girl That Kicked the Hornet’s Nest!
Harlen Coben has recently been hitting my radar and definitely an author I want to try. I love the sound of your mystery books club. The swap sounds good too.
I haven’t read any of those, I’m afraid – I hope they all turn out to be enjoyable. And that classics sale sounds VERY tempting!
Sandy – Yea, I was mentioning that it seems like everyone has read those but me! I actually didn’t even think about reading them any more as I’ve seen the movies but everyone has convinced me I need to add them to my list again 🙂
vivienne – I feel like every mystery buff has read him but me! I need to finally read one of his books and see what all the buzz is about 🙂
Nymeth – Doesn’t the sale sound tempting? I have stocked up on a few classics that way and really you cannot beat the price. I am planning to go on Friday and I just hope the sale is still on!
