This week seems to have flown by doesn’t it? I’ve been pretty busy at work and home but luckily I also had my monthly Mystery Book Group Night this week and that was a great time.
We met to discuss The Last Taxi Ride by A.X. Ahmad. While some book group members didn’t care very much for the story I think more than half seemed to enjoy it and I liked it quite a bit. I think one of the strongest points was the setting but I’ll tell you more about it in another post.
Next up we are going to read Boundary Waters by William Kent Krueger, Blood, Salt, Water by Denise Mina and Deadline by John Sanford.
As usual I tried to get to book group a bit earlier so I could browse the shelves and check out some of the new mysteries and I have added these to my TBR list.
The Blood Strand by Chris Ould. This is a Nordic crime thriller set in the Faroes. This is the first in a new series and of course I enjoy Nordic crime but haven’t read anything set in the Faroes so that’s part of the reason I would like to read this one.
Recipes for Love and Murder by Sally Andrew. In keeping with a foreign setting, this mystery is set in South Africa.
The Guise of Another by Allen Eskins. A mystery about a disgraced Minneapolis police detective trying to get back into the department’s good graces.
So let me know if you’ve read any of these. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Now, I’m very excited for the weekend. As far as bookish plans go, I’m determined to finish The Secret Place by Tana French. While I have enjoyed the book it has started to drag a bit for me and I’m ready to move on.
How about you, what do you have planned for this weekend? Whatever it is, I hope you have a great time!
Can’t help you with any of these books–they are all new to me. The Nordic crime set in the Faroes sounds like something I might like. Plans for the weekend? The grandkid is coming and will keep me plenty busy!
I do want to try that book set in the Faroes (which I don’t think I had ever heard of). Also The Guise of Another, but first I need to read Eskins first book, The Life We Bury. Have a good weekend, Iliana. Think spring is here?
I am definitely curious about Last Taxi Ride – it sounds interesting. Looks like your book club meeting went pretty well! I am hoping to read Tana French at some point. She was one of the authors on my spotlight when I first started blogging.
I find that mixed reactions to books make for good discussions in a book group sometimes. I think I would probably like The Last Taxi Ride also. I hope The Secret Place picks up for you again and that you enjoy it in the end. Have a great weekend!
Do you finish every book you start reading? I’m asking that since The Secret Place is dragging and you didn’t mention putting it down. 🙂
I hope your weekend has been a good one.
I’m glad to hear you’d a great time at the Book Group, Iliana. I’m not familiar with the titles you listed but I thought The Last Taxi Ride sounds interesting.
Hope you’ve a great week ahead! 🙂
