My mystery book group met tonight for our monthly book discussion and also for dinner and a book exchange. We have these special extended meetings twice a year. We discussed the book Three Seconds by Roslund & Hellström.
I found the book to be ok. I know some reviews likened it to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but I thought the Larsson book was better. I’ll try to post a review tomorrow and tell you more about it. Overall the book group thought it was a good thriller but not necessarily on par with the Larsson book.
From the book exchange I got these books to add to my shelf:
- The Day Is Dark by Yrsa Sigurdardottir. I’ve read a couple of her books and I believe this is the fourth one so I was excited to get this one.
- The Game by Laurie R. King. This is one of her novels in the Sherlock Holmes & Mary Russell series of which I’ve not read any so this may be on my shelf for a while.
- Though Not Dead by Dana Stabenow. Apparently there have been 17 previous Kate Shugak novels. Oh my, this one will be on my shelf for a very long time as I like to read a series in order.
- Christine by Madeleine Masson. A biography of one of the most successful women agents of the Second world War. Did not realize this was a biography until now. Interesting.
Next month we’ll be discussing The Inquisitor’s Key by Jefferson Bass. And, I’m very excited because I just saw that NPR is back with their Crime in the City feature.
Sounds like you found some good books to bring home with you. I have read Yrsa S., too, an need to get back to her books. I’m reading a Laurie King book now and really enjoying it, though it is not a Mary Russell novel. I’ve got Dana Stabenow on my pile, but the Masson book is totally new to me–sounds really good! I think Three Seconds won the CWA Intl Dagger a couple of years ago (and their newest has been shortlisted again this year), so I am curious about it, but not sure it is what I’m in the mood for. I never did get around to read any of the Steig Larsson books! Thanks for the NPR link–I will definitely be listening to those programs!
The mystery book group sounds like fun. Happy reading, I haven’t heard of any of the novels you got from book exchange but the Madeleine Masson one sounds interesting.
Danielle – I think I’ve read a Laurie King book but it wasn’t part of her Sherlock series- I need to double check. And I think you’d like the Larsson books – well, especially the first one. I thought that one was great. I love the Crime in the city by NPR. Enjoy!
Bookworm – It is. I’ve been going for about 4 years now and we’ve read some great stuff. The Masson bok does sound good right?
