I hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine was a bit of a blur what with all the bookbinding I was doing but I did finish Dreaming in Cuban for the upcoming Slaves discussion. Don’t forget that’s this Wednesday if you want to participate.
I also got to read a bit in a new poetry book by Sourcebooks, The Poem I Turn To. This collection has a wide variety of poems and it even has a CD so you can hear some of the poems. I love listening to poetry. I’ll share one poem from the collection which I really liked. I feel like so many things are going on with me right now that this poem really resonated with me. I hope you’ll enjoy it.
Moving Forward
By Rainer Maria Rilke
The deep parts of my life pour onward,
as if the river shores were opening out.
It seems that things are more like me now,
that I can see farther into paintings.
I feel closer to what language can’t reach.
With my senses, as with birds, I climb
into the windy heaven, out of the oak,
and in the ponds broken off from the sky
my feeling sinks, as if standing on fishes.
I really identify with that poem, too. I love when a short poem packs a punch and you just “get” it. This one certainly does.
Wow, I love that poem. Rilke is just freakin’ amazing.
Your blog is not only beautiful, content is awesome, too!
I may be a little tardy for the discussion. I thought I had more time this month (where did it go?), and started it late. Even though I read this ages ago, I seem to remember almost nothing….
Are you going to buy more poetry books with your $600?
aka_nik – I know, I really like it when short poems can convey so much. I should post another one from the book that I thought was fab. Maybe later tonight!
Andi – Isn’t he? It’s been a while since I read Letters to a Young Poet but it’s definitely one that should be revisited.
Care – Aw, thank you! 🙂
Danielle – No worries if you are late to the discussion! I think it’s wonderful that you are willing to re-read the book! 🙂
Isabel – Ha,ha… Yea, I think the stimulus check will go off to be able to buy lunch in Germany when we go for a visit. That Euro keeps rising!
I loved that one, Iliana. Thanks so much.
Greer – So glad you liked it! There are some great poems in this collection. I think I’ll have to share some more 🙂
Fantastic poem…Rilke is one of my all time favorite poets. It fits this post perfectly…
