Sometimes I feel like it’s months between BookMooches because all the books I want, well, seem to be on everyone’s list too but I’ve been doing a bit of mooching lately and I’ve been pretty lucky and have found some books that were on my list. Here are my latest acquisitions:
- The Lighthouse by P.D. James. My mystery book group will be reading this book sometime this summer. I’ve been reading some of the Inspector Dalgliesh books but I’m still pretty much at the beginning of the series and this one is book number 13.
- Leonardo’s Swan by Karen Essex. From the jacket: A haunting novel of rivalry, love, and betrayal that transports readers back to Renaissance Italy, Leonardo’s Swans will have you dashing to the works of the great painter—not for clues to a mystery but to contemplate the secrets of the human heart.
- Train to Trieste by Dominica Radulescu. I can’t remember when or why I added this book to my list but after receiving it, it’s not at all what I thought it’d be about. So, in a way it’s kind of a nice treat to have something completely different to look forward to.
- This Time of Dying by Reina James. I remember when this book was getting a lot of buzz in the book blog world. I love the time period and will definitely be reading it although given that it’s about an epidemic and what with all the swine flu stuff on the news I think I may put this one aside for a while.
- There Is Room for You by Charlotte Bacon. From Publisher’s Weekly: A trip to India reveals long-hidden secrets and helps a daughter reconcile with her difficult mother in this intelligent, richly atmospheric second novel by Charlotte Bacon.
I’m waiting for two more mooches and as I still have some points I may just find a few other books for the shelves. How fun.
So what about you? Done any mooching lately and have you found some good books?

I loved the Lighthouse. Perhaps I’m just a little partial because I love lighthouses, but it was just good old fashioned mystery too. I have not done any mooching. I am so much overflowing, and so many I need to read, I am trying to restrain myself!
We were just talking about this on Twitter the other day. A LOT of us are in a mooching drought. We can’t seem to find anything we want on there!! The last 2 mooches I made were never sent and I finally cancelled them. I wonder if no one with my particular taste in books is mooching any more. Perhaps it’s time to diversify my choices! I’m glad you are finding such great books!
I’ve been wanting to read some PDJames, too. Curious to hear what you think about it.
I don’t mooch very often – I do paperbackswap a lot more. I only have 1.9 points currently I think but I did just mooch a Kate Saunders book that a commenter to me recommended.
I have lots of ‘connections’ to the books you’ve mooched! I liked This Time of Dying (more like than love), own There is Room for You thanks to an impulse buy last year, and I had an ARC of Leonardo’s Swans that I bought at HPB languishing on my shelves that I *just* gave away to someone at work in an attempt to clean out my shelves…I think I got rid of 5 books so it wasn’t super effective..
Sandy – I love good old fashioned mysteries too so I’m looking forward to this one. Granted, I typically read in order but I get the feeling James books can really be read almost as standalones. I know what you mean about refraining from mooching, I have too many books in the piles but it’s hard not to add more 🙂
Heather – I definitely go through phases with BookMooch! I am lucky to have found these but again I don’t think most of the books are that recent so that probably helps 🙂
Tiffany – I’ve only read two of her earlier books and liked them a lot! Definitely more traditional mysteries but good ones.
Tara – I’ve never tried paperbackswap! Do you like it? And, how funny, we do have some book connections! I probably should do a big weeding of the shelves too. It’s been a year since I’ve done that. Problem is when I clear off more space I feel like that means “Get more new books!” haha…
I mooch now and then–whenever I can find something good. I’d love to get a copy of the Reina James book! It looks like you’ve got some good titles there.
I don’t mooch, I swap on pbs. I was going through a drought but now I have a ton of books coming in at one time. It’s great though every time a book comes in the mail, I want to drop everything and read it.
Danielle – I was lucky to find several that had been on my list for a while! Right now I’m trying to find some older mysteries which I thought for sure I’d be able to find on BookMooch but so far no luck. Ah well!
Vasilly – Oh yay for lots of books to arrive. I’ve been tempted to try PBS but BookMooch is where I have my points so I guess I’ll stick with it for now. Can’t wait to see what you’re getting 🙂
I haven’t heard of any of these. I’ll have to check them out.
I love paperbackswap. If a book you want is not currently available you put it on your list and then you’re in line for it – first come first served. I usually am not online enough to mooch books quickly when they become available. Plenty of books are available, though, of course.
I have good BookMooch success overall, though have seen a bit of a drought lately too. But did just get a pristine hardcover of Haven Kimmel’s Something Rising (Light and Swift) and via several moochers picked up the entire set of Starbridge books by Susan Howatch. I have a huge wishlist, but usually only go for stuff if it’s in really good condition and it’s something I want to keep; otherwise, it’s easier to go to the library.
The last thing I mooched was a P.D. James novel, actually — her first Dalgliesh book. I really think I have enough unread books on hand, so I’m trying not to mooch unless something irresistible turns up.
I love BookMooch!!!
BTW, I’ve received the book! Thank you so much! 😀
