This was such a busy month with vacation, doctors appointments, and work projects but it was a great month with the highlight of course being our vacation to New Mexico. I’m thinking of putting together all of my photos into a photo book.
But let’s talk about the August books. It was a very good reading month but also kind of different. I read five books and of those three were nonfiction. What? I think I typically read three nonfiction in a year!
So the books I read were: A Dreadful Splendor by B. R. Myers, Good Morning, Monster by Catherine Gildiner, The Perfect Nanny by Leila Slimani; translated by Sam Taylor, Syllabus by Lynda Barry and Liliana’s Invincible Summer by Cristina Rivera Garza. All of these were so good but perhaps my favorite was Good Morning, Monster.
The end of August also marks the end of 20 Books of Summer. I had a goal of reading 10 books from my shelf sitters but I only read four. Still not too bad as I finally made it to some books that had been on my TBR shelf for years. Thanks again to Cathy for hosting the event.
This month I also tried to read some Women in Translation for #WIT2023 but only made it through one book. I do have another one going on and hope to read a few others before the end of the year.
With September almost upon us what’s the one thing I look forward to the most, the Readers Imbibing Peril reading event! So stay tuned for more on that because we all love a good book list right?
I hope you had a wonderful reading month. Let me know if you read anything outstanding. Have a wonderful weekend and more book talk soon!
I’ve got A Dreadful Splendor on my TBR list. Did you like that one, too? Is it worth keeping it on my list?
Lark – I think you’d enjoy it! It was so good and hard to put down. I kept thinking it had a good mix of mystery, romance and some creepy moments.
I chose 20 books for the Summer Reading challenge and didn’t do as well as I had hoped. Finished 7 books, DNF’d 10 books, and left 3 unread. On the plus side, I cleared a lot of backlist titles from my shelves! Some had been there for a decade or more.
Enjoy the RIP challenge. I’m going to sit it out this year.
What good reading month you had!
Those photo books are nice but I also recommend making a calendar – I made one of my month in London last year and made a duplicate for my mother. It gives me great pleasure every time I look at it, which I do nearly every day.
It looks like you had a great reading month and your New Mexico vacation looked so nice. I like the photo book idea, I still order prints and put them in albums after each vacation.
Lesley – You did clear out a lot of your backlist! But 10 DNFs? Oof… I did have one that I forgot to mention. Well any progress on shelf sitters is a good thing right?
Stefanie – It was and fingers crossed this will be a good one too!
Constance – What a great idea! I should do that and have it at my office so when work is getting crazy I can dream about a beautiful place and vacation!
Bookworm – If I don’t order prints or the photo book then it’s like I’ll never see the pictures. I have to say I still miss the days of dropping off film and being surprised
