Time for a monthly recap! I hope you’ve all been doing well and I’m sorry if I’ve been a bit absent around here and blogland.
May has been challenging. I’ve had some work issues that took up a lot of time and energy. My father-in-law has been in and out of the hospital. Then I was hoping to finally have a vacation and my plans fell through.
Still there have been some really good moments. For example, I celebrated my birthday last week so there were a lot of books and cheesecake. I’ll probably have to do two blog posts just on the books I’ve received throughout the month!
My reading was a bit slow but I did finish four books: Nightcrawling by Leila Mottley, The Mountains Wild by Sarah Stewart Taylor, Lost Children Archive by Valeria Luiselli, and Detective Inspector Huss by Helen Torsten.
My favorite by far was Nightcrawling by Leila Mottley. What an impressive debut novel.
Going in to June I’m carrying over a couple of books, one is The Radium Girls by Kate Moore, which is blowing me away! I’m also excited to join in Cathy’s 20 Books of Summer reading project. I’m going for the 10 books challenge and will tell you more about that in my next post. June also happens to be my bloggiversary. Surely that means more books right?
Not only that but I’m also taking a week off starting next week so I cannot wait. I’m so tired and just want to spend some quality time reading and relaxing. Here’s to a great start to the summer. Hope you are all doing well and would love to hear if you’ve got any summer reading plans.
Sorry May was such a challenging month for you! Hopefully June will be more relaxing and happpier all around. With lots of time for reading! 😀
I’m sorry your father-in-law is still not doing well. 🙁
I’m also sorry that your vacation plans fell through, but hope you enjoy your time off next week. Happy belated birthday!! I love cheesecake. Good choice. 🙂
Life has certainly been busy for you… sorry to hear your FIL is not doing well. I’ve been curious about Nightcrawling, so am glad to hear it was a hit for you. Happy belated birthday!
Lark – Thank you. I hope so too. I think taking time off from work this week at least is helping me do more of the things I enjoy so that’s a great help!
Lesley – It’s tough to see our parents go through difficult times isn’t it. Luckily my FIL seems to be recuperating so fingers crossed. And, yes, I was really bummed out about my vacation but sounds like my cousin is coming later this summer and she’ll be able to stay with my mom at least for a long weekend and I can have a mini vacation. I’ll take what I can! 🙂
Joann @ Gulfside Musing – Thank you! My FIL seems to be on the mend! I am enjoying some downtime this week and that is definitely helping. I hope you enjoy Nightcrawling. I know I’ll be looking forward to new books by this author.
I am sorry it was a difficult month for you, Iliana. How is your father-in-law? I hope his condition continues to improve. I was sorry to hear about your vacation falling through, but am glad you are able to take time off next week to relax some.
Happy belated Birthday! It sounds like you had a nice little celebration. :-)Books make the best gifts! My husband’s birthday is today. We’re going to see a movie this coming weekend to celebrate and maybe have a little cake tonight.
Maybe I’ll make The Radium Girls my next nonfiction read. I have heard such good things about it and am glad you are enjoying it.
Have a great week month of June, Iliana!
Literary Feline – I’m really happy to report he’s doing better. It was a bit touch and go but hopefully he’ll be more stable now. And, happy belated birthday to your husband! Yes, books make the best gifts don’t they? I went a bit overboard but all those books brought joy so I can’t feel guilty about that. I hope you will check out The Radium Girls. What a horrifying but important story.
