I was going to wait until end of day to post this but I don’t see myself finishing another book today so let’s get started on the monthly recap. How’s your year going so far?
I completed four books this month and have quite a few in progress. First off, I finished A Winter Away by Elizabeth Fair which gave me an opportunity to read something from Dean Street Press and indie publisher. This was the perfect book to welcome the year with as it is set in winter and is a cozy story about a young woman set in the English countryside.
After that I read Stone Dead by Christopher Wortley for my mystery book group and unfortunately this one was not a winner but it did make for a great discussion.
I have finished one book for the Japanese Literature Reading Challenge, The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa. I found this one delightful and promise a bit of a longer review soon. I also finished The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot by Marianne Cronin. I may be in the minority but this one was a bit of a miss for me.
So a bit of a mixed bag but I don’t mind because I read across genres and even got in some fiction in translation.
On the book haul front I didn’t buy any books this month. Shocking but then again I really went overboard in December. I do have a B&N gift card in my purse though so I’m already thinking about what to use it on.
The best part about this month is actually sticking to somewhat of a blogging routine after the craziness that was last year. I love having participated in a couple of Sunday Salons, doing a reading challenge and being around blogland (yes, even though I’m still behind answering comments and blog visiting!).
I also have a lot of catching up to do on reviews but I’ll probably do a few posts of 2-3 summaries to get caught up.
Next post I’ll tell you all about my current reads because there’s some really interesting stuff in my pile. Now to get a cup of coffee and get busy. Let me know what you think of your reading year so far.
It sounds like you had a decent month of reading and blogging! Like you, I didn’t buy any books this month, but I spent my gift cards right after Christmas and loaded up with a lot of new books, so I’m set for quite a while. Hope you’re surviving the nasty weather and don’t have to go out on those icy roads.
Sounds like a good reading month! I’m especially intrigued with A Winter Away. – have been wanting to read something from Dean Street Press for a while now. January was a slow reading month for me, but I did get through two pretty long books. We’ll see what February has in store…
Sounds like a good reading month to me! These days I’m lucky to read four books in a month, ha. :p
Lesley – I’m definitely set on books but I’m anxious to buy some new ones! haha… The weather has been a bit crazy to say the least but I can’t complain given that we really were lucky this time around! And, I was able to stay home and not go out on icy roads.
Joann @ Gulfside Musing – I’m definitely going to get more books from them. While this one wasn’t necessarily a favorite it was still quite enjoyable and what I would call a comfort read. You’ve had your hands full but hopefully you’re able to get back to more reading this month!
Melody – Haha.. Life does get in the way of reading right? I always start off with grand plans about all the books I want to read and then reality sets in with work and other obligations. Have a wonderful reading month!
