I hope you have all had a wonderful July. Were you doing Paris In July reading or any other special summer reading project? My reading was going so well in June and it totally tanked in July. I haven’t completed a single book this month! I partly blame it on the heat which according to the news, Austin just experienced its hottest July on record. Get me outta here!
Well, it’s not just the heat. Work was again super busy and add to that I’m still providing a lot of care for my mom. She’s making improvements but it’s really slow going. I was also disappointed earlier when I was expecting one of my cousins to come visit (we haven’t seen each other since the start of the pandemic!) but for various reasons her trip was cancelled. I am so bummed out I don’t get to see her and also have a bit of a break from care giving but hopefully all will work out later in the year.
So while it’s been a rough month, Â there’s also been a lot of good stuff. Like, my mom’s progress, trying new recipes, buying new books and staying in touch with family and friends.
I hope I can get back on track with my reading in August. I’m so excited about Women in Translation month. Are you reading any books in translation for that? I have a stack of potentials so I’ll try to share more about those soon.
Stay cool my friends and hope you are having a delightful summer!
I can’t wait for the summer heat to end, too! We’ve been having a record number of 100+ days where I live. It makes it hard to want to do anything. Hope your mom continues to improve and do well, and that you get a chance to relax and read this month. 🙂
Hasn’t it been a summer indeed in the heat/dry department? I feel the same. Just a little rain, please? Ha! Glad to hear that your mother is improving, but I have missed your posts. Hope August is better in the reading department. Take care, Iliana!
Yes, it has been one hot summer! We are thankful to be in CT, where it has been cooler and less humid than FL… but still warmer than normal for here. Glad your mother is still progressing and I hope that continues into August. Sounds like too many disappointments in July, but I’m glad you can still list some good things. Hope you have a better month ahead.
Sorry you heat has been so unbearable. It’s more humid here, so that makes it feel hotter. Sorry your mom’s recovery has been so slow, it must be frustrating for both of you. Hopefully, August will allow you a bit more time for a good book or two,
Can’t believe it’s August already and I’m glad to hear your mom is improving, Iliana. You take care too and hope to see more of your posts whenever you can. 😊
Hi, Iliana! Yes, I participated in Paris in July, but only managed to finish one of my books. I gave up on three others! 🙁 July wasn’t a very good month of reading for me, either. I only finished four books, two of which weren’t favorites. Oh, well.
So sorry you guys are experiencing such awful heat! We’re on a roadtrip to CA and I was worried it was going to be super hot, but so far it’s only in the mid-70s. Perfect temps! I’m also sorry that your cousin wasn’t able to come for a visit. We’ve had a lot of visitors, but one set of relatives cancelled due to Covid, which was disappointing. Will things ever return to “normal?”
I hope your mom continues to improve and that your reading mojo returns. Good to see you posting again! xoxo
