Can you believe it’s time to wrap up July? I had a good reading month and finished four books: The Only Child by Mi-Ae Seo, All the Flowers in Paris by Sarah Jio, O Pioneers! by Willa Cather and The Little Bookshop on the Seine by Rebecca Raisin.
I loved O Pioneers! and hope to read more by Willa Cather. I’m still in the middle of a couple of books but I’ll tell you about those in another post.
Very happy to have participated in the Paris in July event. I’m still planning to participate in Spanish Lit Month and did you know that WIT Month (Women in Translation) is coming up? I’m really excited about that.
I need to go through some of my shelves and back issues of World Literature Today to select some reads.
As far as TV shows are concerned we watched The Pale Horse. Have you guys watched that? I have not read the Agatha Christie book it’s based on but from some reviews I’ve read seems like it’s quite different from the book. I liked the first episode a lot but was disappointed a bit with the second part. We also watched The Valhalla Murders and I really enjoyed that one. The mystery wasn’t that unique or complex but I really liked the two main characters. I hope there will be a second season.
So that’s the latest around here. My husband and I are still lucky to be working from home and we try to limit our outings. I’m ready for Fall to get here so we can go out for walks when it’s not 100+ degrees outside. Wishing you a great month ahead. Let me know if you read some good books this month and if you had a favorite.
I’m ready for fall too, Iliana, though it’s not been too bad really early in the morning. Like just at sunrise. This morning is very, very muggy though. Ick. One nice thing is that I’m getting to know more of my neighbors, at least a little bit. I ‘met’ one of the neighbor dogs this morning – officially, I mean. She’s a 7-month-old pup that is so excited all the time about everything. Her owner, who I see every morning too, asked if I’d like to meet her. I crossed the street and ‘met’ Eukie (think that’s how it’s spelled). She was beyond excited. Also met her owner, Mark. We socially distanced, Mark and I, though Eukie did lick my hand, my arm, my shoes, my ankles, etc. Ha!
I am finding it hard to realize that today is July 31, and August is tomorrow. I quit loving summer several years ago, I’m a spring and fall girl now. We are getting rain at the moment, so a perfect excuse to get back to my reading!
I remember reading a Sarah Jio novel years ago and really liking it. I need to read more of her work. I am glad you enjoyed your reading this past month. I cannot believe July is gone already. After having so many longer than long months, June and July sped by for me, the days falling into each other. I am a bit wary of August, what with school starting up again, but I’m trying to stay positive. Our weather is quite hot out too, and, like you, I am looking forward to cooler temperatures. I hope you have a great week and month of August, Iliana. Take care and stay safe!
Kay – I’m so glad to hear you are enjoying your morning walks and meeting your neighbors. Eukie – how cute is that name! I am such a wimp. I hate hot weather so I have not been going on any walks but hopefully once August is over I can start to do so. I have got to get moving because just sitting at my desk all day is not good.
Jen Mullen – Oh me too! I love Fall and Spring. We’ve had quite a bit of rain this weekend but unfortunately as soon as it stops it just feels muggy and still very hot. At least we don’t have to water the garden!
Literary Feline – I was surprised too at how quickly July passed by. March and April seemed never-ending with all the pandemic news and not that things are looking much better but maybe we’ve gotten used to a new routine. I can only imagine how nerve-wracking the whole school year decisions must be. You take care and stay safe too!
My reading tanked in July. Too much going on, too much stress, too much to plan for. August won’t be any better but hopefully, I’ll be able to revive it in September. Glad you had a good July in reading. Some day I’ll look forward to joining these many reading events.
Paris is July sounds like a fun event. I really can’t believe it’s August already. I hope you have a great week!
LOL! I’m still waiting for summer to arrive! I think I’ve worn shorts twice so far this year. 🙁
Willa Cather is such a great writer. I had never heard of her until we moved to Nebraska in the early 90s. I’ll be anxious to see what you pick up next of hers.
Thanks for the movie recs. We just finished Wanted and are starting in on Bosch, which is good!
Take good care!
Athira – I totally understand. Normally our reading is our go to for stressful times but this pandemic has really changed our lives.
Yvonne – I know right? July did fly by and as much as I hate to say it, I’m ready for 2021.
Les in OR – Oh wow… I’ll send you some of our hot weather! 🙂 We’re supposed to be above 100s all week. Bosch is a great series. I thought this season was really good. I need to check out Wanted. Hope Rod & your mom are doing better!
