It’s time to wrap up another month. How do these fly by so quickly, right? Well, June was actually a pretty good reading month for me. I read five books and a couple of those even counted toward some of my reading challenges.
The first book I finished was Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozsi Adichie. Really enjoyed this book a lot. It may not be my favorite of hers, that still is Purple Hibiscus, but this just had a lot of territory to explore. This one also counted toward my Chunkster challenge as it was kind of a long one.
On the mystery front I read A Dangerous Place by Jacqueline Winspear. This is the 11th book in the Maisie Dobbs series. I have some mixed feelings about this one and probably those of you who’ve read the whole series can guess why. If you haven’t read this series but want to I would definitely encourage you to start with the first book. There is so much progression in the lives of the characters that you really don’t want to miss out on anything.
The other mystery book I read was Eeny Meeny by M.J. Arlidge. This was a pretty good thriller and I’d be interested to read more by this author.
My last two books also count toward some of my challenges. One is The Sacred River by Wendy Wallace. This is for my What’s In a Name reading challenge. And, The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells counts towards my Back to the Classics challenge. Both of these books I really enjoyed.
I wish I could say that I’ll get back to you with reviews but I’ve been trying to focus on some other areas in my life which need a bit of attention – like my health. I’ll try to get better about the blog/blogging though. I also want to thank you guys for all the kind comments to my previous post. You guys rock.
So hope you have a wonderful weekend. I’m looking forward to the three day weekend and I just got some coupons for Barnes & Noble so I think I know where we’ll be going.
I am almost finished with the latest Maisie Dobbs and I know exactly what you mean–a very heavy read–I like it more as I go, but it has not been easy reading about all that sustained grief. Winspear has certainly taken Maisie in a very different direction–will be curious to see on what note it ends. I really want to read Americanah, too. Have a great holiday weekend! 🙂
I still haven’t read Purple Hibiscus. 🙁 It’s one I keep meaning to get to. I’ve been hearing good things about s Eeny Meeny and am glad to hear you liked it.
Enjoy your 4th of July and the weekend, Iliana! Take care of yourself.
The last one I read by Winspear was An Elegy for Eddie, which I found a little disappointing. While I admire the efforts to move Daisy forward in time, the first books were by far my favorites. Have fun and enjoy the fireworks!
Hope you’re doing fine, health-wise! So sorry that it’s bothering you.
I have been curious about Eeny Meeny for a while so I’m glad to hear that you like it. I will be looking forward to reading that one.
A good reading month! One of these days I will get around to reading Adichie and will kick myself and wonder why I ever took so long. You know how it goes. I hope things improve for you health-wise! Take care of yourself!
