I went to get my hair cut today and while waiting for my stylist instead of reading the book I had with me you know what I picked up? People Magazine! Ack, my Bookgirl credibility is shot. Lucky for me, I didn’t have to wait too long.
So no new updates on books read or anything like that tonight. Actually I feel like I’m in slow mode still trying to finish the four books I talked about last week. What’s worse is that I feel like starting a new book. I’m sure some of you can relate to that right?
Anyway, it’s kinda late now and I should be going to sleep but I’m kind of awake so off to read a good book.

Oh I could write a whole novel on my missed reading opportunities lately! And whenever I’m at the doctors or the dentists I always pick up the celebrity magazine to read. It’s kind of soothing!
I know what you mean! Instead of working on another chapter of Light in August yesterday, I read the latest issue of “W” while I was under the dryer! Oh, the shame. I justify it, though, by not allowing myself to buy too many magazines and just read them when I’m out! ha
LOL You crack me up. At least you weren’t relegated to reading all about plaque in the Dentist’s office because you forgot your book this time like you did the previous three appointments during which you read all the magazines available in the office. hehe
I know what you mean. Sometimes at the end of the evening I think how I wasted all the time I could have spent reading. And I also read trashy magazines at the doctor’s office. That’s part of the experience, I’d say!
litlove – hee, hee. I agree, at the doctor’s it’s the best thing to read and that way forget about what’s ahead!
Tiffany – Now that’s a good way of looking at it 🙂
Heather – Oh poor you. My dentist is great – tons of People, Star and other gossip mags. I can tell you everything about celebs after a visit to his office. ha,ha.
Tara – I’m always thinking that too Tara. And, glad to hear I’m not the only one reading trashy mags at the doctor’s!
I have been reading People for years and years. And once a year, I buy a copy of the Enquirer. I usually read it while grocery shopping.
(I hate shopping so much that I need to entertain myself.)
I read celebrity magazines at the salon — I figure it’s the only time I ever read them, so why not? I have to figure out who everybody’s talking about, right?
I just stumbled on your blog and could completely relate to reading multiple books yet still feeling that tug to pick up a new one! I’m fighting that urge as I type this.
I think hair salons and doctor’s offices are perfect places to pick up random magazines since you never know when they may call your name and you’ll have to put down whatever you are reading!
What???? You read People Magazine??? LOL J/K.
We all have slow day I guess. That’s why I always have something light and humorous handy in case I’m “literary-fictioned-out.”
I think we all have a secret obsession w. People. I never buy it, but am happy to read when I take my kid to the orthodontist. LOL!
Well, People magazine sometimes recommends good books. Uh, where there any in that issue? 😀
That’s okay; I’ve got a free subscription to Us magazine and I love it because it’s a visual feast and requires no use of brain cells – none, whatsoever!
As to not finishing things . . . think that’s a middle of summer thing. I’m reading fluffy little bites, right now, and not balancing several like I usually do. It’s all I can seem to handle.
I was on the bus yesterday going to work and opened one of the two books I had with me and then promptly stared out the window the entire ride. Oh well. Sometimes it’s just good to space out. And everyone needs their candy – your’s is People, mine is design magazines.
Isabel – I hate going grocery shopping – it’s an endless source of frustration so I can understand having to read something fun/silly at check-out.
Dorothy W. – So true. If I didn’t catch up on them every once in a while I may not having anything to talk about with my co-workers. hee, hee.
Jennyellen – Thank you for stopping by! Did you cave in and start a new book? I haven’t yet but oh so tempted.
Matt – Ha. Yep, literary-ficitoned-out does happen to me. Usually I turn to mysteries though but I blame it all on my hair salon 🙂
Nancy – I think you must be right!
yvaine – So nice to “see” you again! I ended up not reading it for too long so I didn’t even make it to the book section. Oh well, next visit right 🙂
Nancy, aka Bookfool – It must be a middle of summer thing. I finally finished a book last night but gah if it didn’t seem like forever!
Ted – Oh I used to do that sometimes when I rode the bus. Although my luck there were always weirdos on the bus so I had to read so no one would approach me.
The salon is the perfect place for celebrity magazines. And the doctor’s office. I need short and sweet and mindless for that kind of thing. I don’t know why, but I’ve been in a reading slump for the last week or so. Maybe it’s the heat…
Gentle Reader – It’s the heat! 🙂 I am having the hardest time finishing any books so in a way the mindless reading was probably a good thing. I think I’m set until my next hair appointment though. ha,ha.
