We had a great time in Austin – so great that we are moving down there!
Well, this has been in the works for a while now but the trip down there this weekend was to square away some things and it looks like May will be crazy time for us as we pack up our house, move, etc.!
It’s exciting as I’m going back to a city I’ve lived in before and loved. Of course it’ll be hard to leave our current place because you get used to things. And, not to mention that I’ll miss my friends I have here. Along with my public library and book groups. Ack. I’m really going to miss my book groups as I’ve belonged to them for years and years.
On top of moving, we also have a vacation at the end of May which we can’t reschedule because it’s when we go visit our family in Germany. I get the feeling May will be crazy around here so in advance I’ll apologize if I don’t answer emails as quickly and get even further behind on challenge reads and posting reviews. I’ll still blog as much as I can and visit your blogs as much as I can. I get the feeling that will help keep me sane. heh.
Now it’s time to figure out how I’m going to pack up all my books!
Congrats on the move!! And good luck with those books. 🙂
Congrats on the move! Sounds like a busy month indeed ahead of you. Another trip to Germany sounds pretty nice though. It can be your post-packing holiday? Have fun packing all your books!
Congrats on the move, Iliana!
I know how you feel if I were in your shoes. All the best and have fun packing! 😉
Good luck with the move. I swore last time never again, but I’m sure you’ll be much better organised than I am Make sure your books are the first things that are unloaded and unpacked.
WOW!!! Congratulations! What fun. If I’m ever in the Austin area, I’m definitely meeting you at BookPeople. lol
Congrats!! Now you can join new book clubs! A move is both stressful and exciting!
Great news! I’m sure you’ll love it in Austin. I hope the move goes smoothly!
I’ve heard Austin is a beautiful city. Congrats on the big move. Does this mean you have to finish up all your big book binding projects before you move or are those easily moveable?
How exciting! Congratulations!
Lezlie
I think you will have so much fun rediscovering Austin as a resident again.
I hope the craziness isn’t too crazy and I am wishing you all the best and just think…Germany and a nice break will be coming soon… =)
I am SO excited and happy for you both!
I am happy for you.
I hope that you become Austin’s bookbinding expert.
Best wishes.
Wow! How exciting! I’m sure the Metroplex will miss you, too, but I look forward to hearing about your adventures in Austin. 🙂
Eva – Thanks! I’ll need all the luck I can with all those boxes 🙂
tanabata – I’m already looking forward to just lounging around in Germany! I am sure I will need that. Although since it’s a home we have to sell and stuff, I’ll be doing a lot of moving stuff throughout the summer. Eek.
Melody – Thank you! 🙂
Ann Darnton – That’s my thinking too. I am already seeing a lot of empty shelves and it makes me sad so the books will be unpacked pronto!
Andi – It’s a date! 🙂
kristen – I’m definitely looking for book groups. Hopefully I’ll meet some great bookish friends.
Dorothy W. – Austin is a great town and I love the vibe there. I can’t wait to really discover it again.
Stefanie – It is pretty and a lot more green than Dallas so that’s nice! I still have two bookbinding classes so hopefully I’ll finish my projects then if not then I’m sure I can come back to them after our Germany trip.
Lezlie – Thank you 🙂
Christine – Aw, thanks Chica. We are pretty thrilled so hopefully all will go as smoothly as possible. If not, chocolate always helps 😉
Isabel – Ha,ha… You know, they do have a bookbinding group. Yep, I’ll be in touch with them soon!
Tiffany – I’ll really miss my book groups. They’ve been the best but well Dallas is not far so I may just have to come every once a while to visit book groups, paper stores and of course friends! 🙂
Oh, I love Austin and am jealous! Good luck with the move. I would be in serious trouble if I lived in the same city as Bookpeople…
Austin sounds like a very exciting place – congratulations, Iliana, and I hope the move goes well!
Congratulations! It does indeed sound like you’re going to be very busy for the next little while! Hope everything goes well.
Good luck with everything! I hope the move goes smoothly for you.
Ili, you may not know about The Book Basket in nearby Bastrop. It’s a treasure, so go discover it when you feel like getting away from the city.
Congrats! We’ve always said if we ever had to move back to Texas, we’d love to live in Austin. 🙂
Congratulations on the upcoming move! Packing and moving can be quite a chore, but when you are looking forward to the movie, it kind of takes the edge off. Goodbyes are always so hard, aren’t they? Hopefully you will find a book group in Austin.
Best of luck with your move! : ]
Somer – Austin is great isn’t it? I’ll be living very close to BookPeople! 🙂
Nymeth – Thank you. It’s getting hard to move around what with all the book boxes! ha,ha..
Lisa – I get the feeling the whole summer will be crazy for us but hopefully the move will go smoothly.
Chelle – Thank you!
bookworm – Ah, a new place to check out! I’ll have to keep you posted!
Les in NE – I understand. When I left Austin after school it was hard to come back to Dallas but I got used to things. Now I’m excited about going back!
Literary Feline – I’m so tired of boxing books but I think I’m finally getting to the end of the books. Granted books seem to appear everywhere so who knows. ha,ha..
Jenna – Thank you!
I would like to see a picture of your books being laid out for the move. 🙂 I remembered moving across the bay from Berkeley to San Francisco with about 20 cases of books. Glad my friends were okay with being the coolies!
Good luck with the packing since it can be quite a drudgery. I’m contemplating moving back to Hong Kong as well now that I have completed grad school.
Wow, May really will be crazy! But a good kind of crazy. Moving can be bittersweet, but it sounds like you have some great adventures ahead of you.
Packing isn’t fun, packing books less so. Not only are they ridiculously heavy, but I am so particular about my books that packing them for a move is nerve racking!
I wish you the most pleasant and relaxing move possible and look forward to hearing about your return to Austin.
You will be busy, but it sounds like it is all good. Congrats on your move!
Just do a little at a time and you will get there!
Oh, do I know the pain of boxing books. Good luck with all the busy-ness ahead!
Good luck with the move! How great that you get to go back to a place you know and love.
This is my first visit to your blog (very nice, btw!) I came by to invite you to guest post on my blog about your book club- what you’ve liked about it, what makes it special, etc. If you have time, please send me an email if you’re interested!
That’s exciting news! Will you be too far away to go to your book groups occasionally? Maybe you’ll be able to find new ones. Good luck with everything–May sounds like it is going to be busy!
Best of luck with your move!
Matt – Austin is only 4 hours from Dallas and I already think that will be a hard enough move. I cannot imagine moving across the world! 🙂 I’ve got most of the books packed but maybe I should take a pic of the boxes! Our living room is scary.
Carl V. – Yep, lots of mixed emotions going through but on the whole I’m very excited. I lived in Austin while I went to school but that’s been ages ago so I know a lot has changed. So I look forward to discovering more bookish stuff 🙂
Nancy – Thank you! I’m trying to remain calm and definitely purging a lot of old stuff is good. I am striving for simplicity 🙂
Melanie – Isn’t it awful? Thank you for all the good vibes!
Lisamm – Thank you for stopping by. I would love to but I’m really running behind. Let me think about it some and if I can I will 🙂
Danielle – It is a four hour drive but I’ll be visiting a lot as I have some great friends here and there are some stores that I must visit that Austin doesn’t have so I will have to time those visits to coincide with book group meetings!
LK – Thank you 🙂
Moving is when you finally have to confront the reality that you have accumulated way more stuffs than you admit you do. Good luck with loading and moving. How many cases of books do you have? 🙂
Hey! I’m moving this month too! Moving to a new city is both exciting and a pain in the butt. I hope it’s a smooth and easy move.
I know what it’s like to miss the library one’s used to! I scouted the online catalogue and website of the library in our new town, and it doesn’t seem quite as good. My husband thinks I’m crazy, since one of the first things I did whenever he had an interview in another city was to look up all the public libraries in that area!
